"The Destruction of Metronimus City" (May 2019 SOMETHING NEW)

As the new Tea Club album was being recorded and mixed, Joe Dorsey said to me something along these lines: "I'm making an album of video game music. I've been wanting to do it for years and I just need to do it now." I said "PLEASE LET ME BE INVOLVED." So I started to send him some old demos of songs I had written on the keyboard that were intended to be video game songs from all the way back to 2002. Joe loved it and started reworking those demos into full fledged songs. Pat McGowan heard what we were doing and wanted in on it, so he sent over a couple of keyboard demos to me and Joe. Thus was born The Tea Club side project now known as AfterForm.

A few weeks ago, we quietly released an album of this music on Bandcamp. You can stream the whole thing by clicking here. But I wanted to share this song in particular with you. It was written in one night toward the end of the sessions. I was sitting alone in my house and I heard a chord progression in my head. I went over to my keyboard and the song pretty much fell out of my brain and into Logic Pro X. In my mind, I imagine this entire album is the soundtrack to a non-existent video game that would have come out around 1997. This song would be playing during a part in the game where a city called Metronimus City is being destroyed by an army of merciless robots created by the evil corporation known as "Talcon Industries". The image that comes to mind is from the famous "Dark Phoenix Saga" from the X-Men comics where an entire planet is destroyed.

Although the scene I imagine for the song is grim and disturbing, I imagine a triumphant return of one of Metronimus City's citizens, who is able to finally destroy the oppressive Talcon Industries in the album's finale, "Verticalibration" (you can listen to that song here.)

I hope you enjoy this song and get a chance to listen to the entire AfterForm album "Talcon Industries" and let your imagination take you to a fantastic place!

And as always, THANK YOU, Beloved Patrons, for your support!

-Dan McGowan
