How should we calculate the "true" value returned to shareholders with buybacks. Specifically if management receives a substantial portion of their compensation in stock. Aren't buybacks just a back-door method of paying management? (In that context). How do we navigate this within the financial statements? I presume it's within statement of shareholder equity, but I'm not sure how to calculate. Thanks!

So what causes so much volatility in the market. Is it day traders seeking a quick return, fund companies trying the same or hedge fund moving big blocks of stock?

So do mutual funds invest new money every time they get new money? If so then they are not paying attention to the PE ratios or other factors in evaluating the stocks in their respective portfolio. With that said then why should a retail investor be that concerned himself? You have provided a few valuation methods which would indicate possibly individual stocks should only be purchased if the numbers are right! If one purchases an etf the buyer knows nothing of the valuations of each individual security. So what might be the approach, buy on the dips or get the stock when you have the money?

So why does I appear that so many dividend stocks still have high PE multiples with the market as it is today? So do mutual funds invest every time they get new money
