My reading now is Amanda Podanyβs βBrotherhood of kingsβ and βWeavers, Scribes and Kingsβ as well as the recently released βOxford History of the Ancient Near Eastβ. Vols 1,2. Vol one is prehistory to the fall of the Akkadian empire, and 2 os ur3 to the fall of Babylon. (Also the same periods in Egypt, but Egypt is so last millennium)
