Server Costs

You may be wondering what the costs of the server are and how they are laid out amongst our services.

Our primary machine is provided by GameserverKings through the Terraria subreddit (the machine is actually lent to the Terraria subreddit but we were given access as part of integrating the Survival server into DG and being listed as the official subreddit server).
$0 for Ryzen 5 3600, 476 GB SSD, 32 GB RAM. It is not certain how long we will have this machine. If we do lose this machine we may move the server over to our Europe one (listed below).

We also have a dedicated server in Europe that is currently used to host the forum and some other services.
$32.76/month for Intel Core i7-4770, 4 TB HDD storage and 32 GB RAM.

Our database is hosted on its own VM at Digital Ocean:
$5/month Droplet using a 1 vCPU, 1 GB Memory
+$3.20/month  for storage for the database itself
+$1.00/month for the Droplet Snapshots
+$2.16/month for Volume Snapshots
=$13.26

We have daily backups being stored in AWS S3:
$0.68/month for storage last month.

Our forum also uses a mail service (mailgun) in order to send out emails. The cost is around $4.41/month

In order to protect our server against ban evaders, bots and spammers we also pay for proxycheck.io so that we can check whether an IP may be a proxy, VPN or server.

Our main (outdated) website and mail boxes are provided by graywebhost.
$3.00/month

So if we count everything here:
Total: $57.32

In order to consolidate on costs I hope to do the following:
1. Rework the main (outdated) website into a simple one-page website and host it on the Europe server served via Cloudflare.
Saving: $3.00/month

2. Migrating the database to a new Digital Ocean VM closer to the main server and cutting down the storage used to fit into the one that comes with the VM.
Saving: $5.36/month

This would reduce costs to $48.96. The majority of this cost is actually the dedicated server which is not fully utilised. Since it is in Europe it could potentially act as a Europe mirror of DG for people who want lower ping or as extra capacity for gamemodes lobbies, or possibly its spare capacity could be used for AutoSurvival once again until it's needed for other things.
