Dev Build Update: Vods! (April 3rd, 2025)
Added 2025-04-04 00:28:47 +0000 UTCHey everyone!
Smashers App now supports vods 😎

What's new?
When you open the match details sheet, you'll now see a Youtube embed with that match's vod(s). When there are multiple language vods, you'll be able to swipe between them.
Vods show up on all the major pages:
Event page
Player page
H2H sheet
Characters sheet

You can also use the app's filtering system to quickly find the exact vods you're looking for. For example, you can filter to certain character matchups, certain locations, and even your starred player groups.
How can I submit vods?
You can submit vods via the dev website, either by using the link in the navbar or directly from an event page. If you try to submit vods in the mobile app, it will prompt you to open the dev site.
Our vod submission workflow supports:
Submitting playlists or individual vods
Auto-matching sets to vods based off of player tags, bracket location, and characters played
Enabling the auto-matcher to use historic player tags
Specifying vod language
Choosing timestamps for longer Youtube videos with multiple sets
Filtering out irrelevant videos from the playlist
Here's an example of the timestamps editor:
All in all, we're proud of how powerful this vod submission tool is and we're excited for you to try it out!
Trouble-shooting vod submissions
If you submit a vod in the wrong language, you can fix it and then resubmit.
If the playlist contains multiple events or videos you don’t want the autotagger to use, you can add keywords to the blacklist in the settings. The blacklist is comma separated so if you wanted to remove all videos including SSBM and Squad Strike you can set it to SSBM,Squad Strike.
For playlists that include doubles, you can blacklist & or / depending on how the uploader denotes teams. This may exclude some singles matches for characters like Game & Watch or Rosalina & Luma, so you can use the whitelist to make sure they still get tagged.
What's next for vods?
We've got a number of vod related improvements in mind, including:
Vod search
Defaulting the vod to your preferred language
Putting the vod submission tool into the app
Adding picture-in-picture mode so you can watch a vod while navigating the app
The ability to save vods to watch later
More flexibility with match/vod filtering
Fixing the Youtube player so it accepts starting timestamps
Some of these updates will take longer than others.
What's next for everything else?
The major thing is that we'll be launching FGC support and rebranding the app very soon! As always, Patreon will get early access to our new titles.
We're also focusing our time on bolstering our statistician + organizer tiers with perks like write API, a stats API/tool for broadcasts, and a social graphics exporter.
Please look forward to it!
