Profile: B'Elanna

I'm starting with B'Elanna because she is one of the characters I want to do something unique with and potentially genre breaking for Star Trek. She is also someone I didn't know what to do with.

First as much as I dislike the Christie Golden books about Voyager's return, B'Elanna was the only character to get a solid solo story and I enjoyed it to a point.

Having sat on her for nearly a year, I want her to go on a similar journey, if you haven't read the books then I haven't spoiled anything because it would be the same story but with references to "The Mysterious Cities of Gold" TV animated show. If you haven't seen the show here is the intro -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtyXnr5XV_A. B'Elanna Torres is of Latin American decent as well.

In popular culture it's always a man who goes on a journey, or a quest to find something or someone. At the moment I can only think of Kill Bill or Aliens where I'm wrong. Please let me know of others.

The second part to this is doing something special for patreons. With B'Elanna on her own (at a certain point in the story) and not affecting the other characters I can play with the vibe of her story arc.

At the moment I envision Tom Paris giving her his old music collection when they arrive at his father's house, he has an iPod or something. On that device he has a collection of songs she can listen to. So when that story starts, I'm going to create normal chapters for B'Elanna on the public podcast feed, but concurrently re-write the chapters to include the music collection and music references on the Patreon feed. So they'd be different versions of say the episodes where I want to use contemporary music (for our time). You can download either, but it's something I want to do.

My only problem is to not take you out of the Star Trek world. This is probably why classical music is so often used in TNG, DS9 and VOY. All we've had is 30 seconds of Magic Carpet Ride from Star Trek: First Contact and some TV references from Tom in VOY.

But if B'Elanna is going to do what I want her to do, why can't it be a western in space crossed with musical references like we've seen in Guardians of the Galaxy? It was a "Wagon Train to the Stars" as Gene envisioned.

That's where I'm at with her, I've collected some songs about revenge and redemption and plan for B'Elanna to planet hop in her journey.

If you have any thoughts, please share. Sorry for being vague overall with what exactly I'm doing with her.
