2025-06-13 23:16:41 +0000 UTCActually I first realized I NEED to wear serious sunglasses after a day of snowshoeing in high school. I was in class and was realizing I couldn't read the board. It wasn't that my vision was black, but that parts of it were just grey and missing. I kind of freaked out and went to the nurse and she told me I was having a migraine with auras. The aura I get is basically losing my vision, which is... as you can imagine... pretty terrifying haha

2025-06-13 23:04:51 +0000 UTCCompletely agree, as a kid I always had my head in an encyclopedia and have been going down wiki rabbit holes to satisfy random curiosity’s since the site was in its infancy. It’s a major reason why I enjoy Hendrys work too, Sometimes I just want to listen to a curious person rather than an authoritative person on a topic.

2025-06-13 23:01:42 +0000 UTCI think you've just put into words why I've enjoyed your videos - it's the interesting rabbitholes, factoids and dead-ends that come with exploring a topic from first principles using whatever sources come to hand. I feel "authorities" perhaps start out knowing where they want us to end up and skip over anything that doesn't get us there quicker which I appreciate too, but it's a very different presentation.

2025-06-13 22:53:03 +0000 UTCAs far as expertise goes, relying on someone's degree as a shortcut for whether or not their information is trustworthy is how crackpots get away with their nonsense. I have known plenty of people who had strange, and in some case falsifiable beliefs, in fields they were generally experts in. You constantly have to evaluate your own data and data presented to you by others for accuracy. It never ends. I agree with you 100% on this point.

2025-06-13 22:36:25 +0000 UTCI taught myself to read specifically to play text parser games and I hadn't heard of the Crimson Diamond, so this video was incredibly helpful to me.

2025-06-13 22:18:29 +0000 UTCvampirism reveal? on Friday the 13th?? I’d expect nothing less. This past winter was my first with both: heavy, quick-melting snowfalls (i.e. lots of wet, reflective snow) and errands run during daylight hours, on foot (i.e. not behind some form of vehicular glass). Basically my point is, snow blindness had me acting downright vampiric too, haha. Surprised me as someone who grew up around plenty of it. I was also just workshopping another joke involving my name, inspired in part by the very recent developments in its own region of origin. Scottish highlands sound preferable right now, quite frankly. Quite an example to allude to weeks in advance huh? all in all a pretty impressive ramble! I think you summarized the channel and its appeal, about as well as any one summary can 👍
