[Attempt 2] YT's new comment response recommendations are bleak

Sort of off topic, but I empathize with the confusion about being branded as autistic. It's happened a couple times to me as well, and I really don't understand it. It's not that I'm insulted -- there's obviously nothing wrong with being autistic or having autistic traits, I just don't identify with the term myself, and I don't really think I exemplify such traits to any significant degree. I guess I'm shy and nerdy, maybe that's the only reason people make the assumption? But it always strikes me as ... weird.

2025-06-19 18:33:55 +0000 UTCOn the end point; I think Youtube is banking on people not realising it is LLM generated replies, similar to Manufactured Authenticity. It'd generate more parasocial-relationship-thingy-stuff. Which keeps the person around more, engage more, make it more likely that they'll donate or watch adds and ect And the same but inverse on the creator's side; those who don't see an issue might use it to give more people the impression they're interacting with their audience. (or feel like they actually are interactive) While at the moment they're terrible, I imagine a not insignificant amount of people are already falling for it. And it'll probably get "better" over time as it's adjusted Terrible joke; the guy thinking Modernism is the autistic bird fact lady must be confusing things, she's clearly the autistic moose fact lady (It is still funny she got the moose skull and it's just sitting in the background)

2025-05-16 16:35:33 +0000 UTCyeah I was thinking about this too. Both the upward trend in identification (especially self-identification) and with what looks like a trend in the type of content getting attention & the sort of attention it gets. all sorta related. and I agree the process of de-stigmatization was initiated but not completed. Whether it'll be more of a reclaimed term or end up being too vaguely defined to be more than a casual insult or something kinda seems like it's in flux rn. Along with many things...

2025-05-16 15:28:17 +0000 UTCI suspect the autism comments are due to 1) You like talking about an eclectic mix of niche stuff 2) You don't keep consistent eye contact with the camera and look around a lot while speaking/thinking (tbh I think this makes you seem more genuine even if it's technically worse from a performer's POV) 3) There has been a general boom in people identifying as neuro-divergent, with mild high functioning autism being one of the big ones. Obviously it's absurd to call someone autistic just based on that, but the internet will be the internet. Autism has been pretty de-stigmatized on the internet (though not everywhere) and there has also been a fair bit of meme culture around calling things "autistic" which may or may not be offensive to actual autistic people depending on your point of view.

2025-05-16 09:01:56 +0000 UTCThe AI algorithm making the assumption that someone could be bad enough with numbers to confuse 70 and 70,000 is way funnier than it has any right to be.

2025-05-11 22:37:46 +0000 UTCRight, I forgot to mention the thing that makes me the most angry, it's not upfront to viewers! It's kind of fucked up, I feel like they see creators as the same soulless corporate bots that would do shady shit in the name of "business". Like of course some YTers treat it like purely a business, but this feels so icky and predatory on the good will of real fans.

2025-05-11 00:37:07 +0000 UTCI don't even think there is a vision, just a compulsion at this point... Like there are plenty of visions that would actually increase the quality of life for creators, but this really isn't one of them for most probably

2025-05-11 00:34:30 +0000 UTCWhen you build a platform around user interactions, it feels like a bad move to offer to automatically generate those interactions. I don't want to talk with a LLM, I'd go talk to ChatGPT if I wanted that! The point is to share something, an experience, a reaction, a joke, with the creator and the other viewers, not to have a LLM do that for me, and it goes the same for a reply, I'd much rather have no reply than something AI generated.

2025-05-10 23:45:51 +0000 UTCI wanted to say something funny at first too, but this is just sad. Somewhere up the rungs on every corporate ladder there seems to be some futurist tech bro who has no idea what it means to be a person.

2025-05-10 22:11:50 +0000 UTCFWIW, you aren't the only one having this issue. See this thread from two days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/patreon/comments/1khz14k/help_please_videos_keep_disappearing_after/ And this one from yesterday: https://www.reddit.com/r/patreon/comments/1kiw0z5/i_cant_post_video_right_now_anyone_else/ And today: https://www.reddit.com/r/patreon/comments/1kjf1i0/anybody_else_having_an_issue_with_video_uploads/

2025-05-10 21:56:56 +0000 UTCWeird, so uploading it again in a new post brought back the video in the old post...
