And so yet another adventure begins.
32 shows across USA, Canada & parts of Europe in 52 days. I’ll be honest, it felt quite surreal to be saying goodbye to people and then tossing in “see you on Christmas Eve!”. I mean, it’s only November 3 and Christmas seems so far away! And yet for us 3 Aussies in the band, that’s the next time we’ll be home with our families.
It’s a trade of epic proportions doing what we do in a band like this. It’s never really possible to “have it all” in life. You have to make choices and each thing you choose to do results in something else you are not able to do. Time is a finite resource after all. The trade of going on tour with NeO vs. time with my daughter in particular is definitely a hefty trade to make. Sometimes you get lucky like last year when I got back from tour just in case for all her end of year concerts for this and that. This it's the opposite and I miss every single one. Alas, things go in swings and roundabouts and I am grateful to have the chance to perform and fulfill my artistic desires so fully.
Playing in a touring band you’re offered the opportunity of a lifetime. The chance to literally do what I had dreamed off since being a teenager, to play the songs we wrote to fans all across the world. The be able to do it as a headliner is even more special. There is definitely a sense of pride knowing that so many people buy tickets to our shows and are so passionate about the music we have created. We are hardly the biggest band going around, but we’ve managed to carve out a niche for ourselves with an incredible fanbase that supports us to no end. It has helped make it possible to go on epic adventures like this one right now.
So where to first? Denver, USA. Where we have a production day on Nov 4th before the first show on the 5th. Which funnily enough Denver was actually the last city we played on our Chaos & Carnage USA/CA tour in April/May this year. But despite Denver’s good fortune in getting two visits within a few months of each other, this headline tour sees us play only 7 USA/CA cities that we performed at earlier this year. 20 different cities get a chance to see us live for the first time since late 2023. We do try our best to mix up what cities (and countries) we tour each time we visit a particular part of the world. We don’t always have a full say in where we go (e.g. Atlanta was supposed to be on this tour for example, but we had an issue finding a suitable venue and so sadly it had to get left off), but it’s something I discuss in detail with our booking agents. I always want to try and give every person that loves NeO’s music a chance to see us live as I truly feel the live experience is something special to share with an audience and can help solidify listeners are fans for many years to come.
This tour we also get the chance to play 7 shows in Canada which I’m really excited about after only including 2 on our tour earlier this year. The fans in Canada are always amazing and some of the cities, such as Regina, and Winnipeg we haven’t been to in years, so I have high hopes for those shows.
The initial tour finishes up at the stunning Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles on December 7, the original final date of the tour, before we then head to Europe to support Imminence. When your friends come asking if you want to come to Europe for a week to play with them to 3000-4000 a night, you say yes and make it work.
Half the band and all the crew go home after LA, but for Matt, Dan & myself it’s not really viable to fly back to Australia and then to Europe in the space of a week. It would have only meant 4 nights at home after travel and the strain on the body with the jet lag (plus the massive cost) meant that we decided instead it was best to head straight to Amsterdam for the week and rest and recoup to prepare for the shows with Imminence there.
So here we are, officially on our way and excited to hang out with lots of you in the coming weeks. If you'll be in attendance make sure to let me know in the comments! - Tim
