👁️ The Rise of AI Art ● Article Preview

Since January I've been busy working on a new article about the controversial topic of AI Art! On my blog I talked at length about deep dreams, deep fakes and AI in general, and with so many artists following me I felt this was a topic many of you would be interested to read about.
Incidentally, this is also my longest post ever, with a whopping 24 pages! 😅 I tried to cover the recent history of AI Art, the techniques used, and its many issues. The largest part of the article focuses, as expected, on copyright and its adjacent problems.
I have been studying and working in the field of AI for 15 years, so it is not unexpected that my article shine a mostly optimistic light on AI Art. But I did my best to cover all the main issues and controversies that are inherently linked with these technologies.

I am *very* excited about AI, but at the same time I understand why some people are so worried. It enables a lot of cool things that we didn't even think were possible 5 years ago. BUT it also gives life to an entirely new era of scams and ethically-questionable ventures. This is also why I think we need to fill the internet with GOOD examples of how to use these technologies for something cool!

My brother is quite a gifted individual in that he’s a programmer who’s able to (is “evangelise” the right word?) his software to boards of directors and interns alike - in four languages! Anyway, naturally he’s subject to like a thousand NDAs, but he’s been feeding me little morsels of info about AI for probably close to a decade. I can’t even remember what jargon he used but my point is 🤔 Oh yeah: my point is, it has always seemed to me to be either a far future reality or an overhyped, depressingly lame current one, or both - like VR of the mid nineties. But when I showed my Dad GPT-4 recently, you should’ve seen the look on his face… 😮 On the other hand, when I showed him what one of the countless “Make your own 100 avatars for only $10” add-ons had done to me and my cat, you should’ve seen the look on his face… 🤢
