Mecanum Wheels

Here are some pictures of the Mecanum wheels for the new Omni Bike project I recently posted. They are about 360mm in diameter and I'll be driving them with the four ODrives from the machine I tested with Colin, but with a lower reduction so I've got some hope of it balancing and being able to screw itself along.

Each wheel has 12 little wheels, each with a steel axle and two bearings. The little wheels have tyres which are TPU and rigid cores, the hub is 3D printed and the sides are plywood. Only three more to make! More updates coming soon.

Yes that's possibly true, although my wheels are bigger ;-)

I'm curious, you said the wheels you saw online were expensive, $1000 for 4 of them (and they were not really big enough anyway). But the TPU you used is kind of expensive at around $37 for 0.75kg. I'm guessing you might have been approaching $1000 in materials for the four wheels by the time you were done printing all the parts and putting in bearings. Is that close? (Not counting help from sponsors)

I'm using the S1s, I only need 30A per axis, there's four wheels all balancing in the same direction so that should be more than enough power @ 50v.

It's from 3D fuel - https://www.3dfuel.com/products/essentium-tpu-95a-low-friction-2-85mm It's extremely tough but also quite slippery, so we'll see how that goes.

Will you be using the Pro ODrives? They are impressive pieces of kit now

Curious which TPU you are using for the wheels?
