I’m mostly watching you on Nebula right now, bc they have subtitles and I want to support that platform, but I do wish I could “like” or comment there! Not a major complaint per se, but I wanted to explain why I am registering my “heart” for your video on “Contact” here.. it is so so good, your callouts about the book would drive me up a tree, though I totally get still being able to like a thing that is goofy and embarrassing in ways. I love that you are able to like Carl Sagan as a science communicator without being incapable of acknowledging those goofy and embarrassing things. You mentioned how people think you hate something when you criticize something about it or have a laugh - that’s so one-dimensional and emotional! It’s ok (and pretty normal) to like SOME THINGS about a person, without having to make them a cult of personality or get mad when someone has a bit of fun at something dumb they did or said. Anyway, every single criticism landed for me, I particularly loved your observation about him randomly having one line from some random narrator just so Carl Sagan could let us know Ellie is hot 😆 Also, the running inner monologue he imagines for her is absurd. And writing a series of fantasies owning people making the weakest possible arguments as you designed them is the most hilarious teenager thing in the world for a brilliant adult man to do in a book he has written.
