February Patreon Check-In!

Hey guys! 

So this is maybe going to be a little cringe, but I just wanted to check in and let you guys know what to expect in the next few weeks in terms of content. I think that laying out my plans will help me stay on top of things, and let you guys know what to look forward to! 

First is the Senshi video, which is tentatively titled “Senshi: The Heart of Dungeon Meshi.” This one is actually, kind of surprisingly, looking like my longest Delicious In Dungeon video yet, and it goes over Senshi as a character, why I love Griffin Soup as an episode, and why so much of the heart of the series can actually be attributed to this strange little dwarf man. I’m hoping to have it done for this weekend, so look forward to that! 

Second is we’re finally going to gear in to Witch Hat Atelier before we get some anime news! I haven’t actually made a full video about my thoughts about the manga, so I’m thinking I might dabble in a very loose spoiler-free review/recommendation of “Why You Should Read Witch Hat Atelier” and then a more edited, more video essay style “The Most Creative Magic System In Manga.” 

I’ve been mega-depressed over David Lynch’s passing, so I kind of wanted to do some sort of tribute video while also keeping things palatable to my audience. He was a personal hero of mine, and I feel something like “David Lynch’s Influence on Japanese Media” could serve as a neat little bridge between something I really want to touch on, while also being something my audience could enjoy or learn something from. This video could talk about Silent Hill, Evangelion, Satoshi Kon OVA’s and surrealism in anime, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and Link’s Awakening, Deadly Premonition… There’s really so much. I think I’d be remiss not to do this, so even if it flops I’m going to take a bit of a detour and really commit while I still feel it.

Last, is The Chilchuck Video! Rounding out my Dungeon Meshi main cast videos, I want to talk about why cowards in anime are such a fun trope, how Chilchuck subverts how they’re typically written, and wonder out loud what Chilchuck’s “Hero Moment (TM)” could be later in the series. 

I also want to keep up with the reaction stuff, so we’re going to commit to Apothecary Diaries, Frieren, and Sakamoto Days weekly. I know they’ve been a bit all over the place, but I’m going to try and adhere to more of a schedule with them – especially the ones that are finished already that I can just binge a little bit! Something like Maomao Monday/Sakamoto Wednesday/Frieren Friday release schedule would make sense.
