New Transcription and Assistant features in 0.17.19

We recently pushed version 0.17.19 to the private repo which packs a few useful features and bugfixes. This update is available early for Patrons in the Frequent User and Producer tiers.

Transcription stuff

With this version, you can check Split On Punctuation when transcribing, so that the transcription segments are easier to follow when exported as subtitles. This is in addition to the Max. Words per Line and Max. Characters per Line already added in 0.17.17.

There's a lot of stuff that can be done using AI on this end, and we're really hoping  to eventually build some sort of AI-based guideline system for transcribing and subtitles, but have to prioritize other features before that.

The Prevent Gaps Shorter Than setting in the Transcription Settings allows you to automatically remove any gaps between transcription segments that are less than the number of seconds you define.

Transcription groups

For folks who use transcription groups, we made it easier to simply add the selected segments to the currently selected group without removing any of the existing segments from the group, by using the CMD+SHIFT+G shortcut. We use groups extensively in our daily workflow when marking footage.

If you're already adding notes to groups, add them with confidence because these will be really useful in a group-marker-transcription advanced search feature soon.

Assistant

Currently doing tests and researching  ways to optimize the costs when using the Assistant on your transcriptions, but we just added the tiny [calc] feature/command which allows you to calculate the minimum number of tokens you're going to send on your next message to OpenAI based on how your current chat history and context look like.

BTW, if you're asking the assistant stuff based on your transcriptions, we recommend sending multiple questions or requests in one message instead of one by one. Otherwise, you're basically sending the whole context with each question which multiplies the cost by a lot!

Standalone Release

We're working to add more features and will compile a standalone release as soon as possible, but if you're a Frequent User or Producer who absolutely needs to have a standalone release, just message us and we'll try to make it happen earlier than planned.

And speaking of releases and stuff...
(whoever came up with these terms was mediocre at best - wait... that's us πŸ‘€)

- the non-standalone or git version can be dowloaded via git clone or git pull and requires you to install Python and a bunch of nerdiness on your machine. Contrary to popular opinion, it's not just for hackers, but you do need to get a bit dirty with command lines.

- the standalone version doesn't require any nerdiness on your machine and it's either under the form of a macOS app or Windows executable, but it does require more work on our end since it involves freezing, compiling and other crazy words that describe things that don't make us very happy filmmakers - and that's why we prefer to use them less often.

Please note that words standalone or non-standalone have nothing to do with the integration with Davinci Resolve which works for both versions.

Thanks again for supporting us!

We promise that this text was not written using AI and deeply hope that it contains typos and grammatical errors to prove that.
