We picked up the pace quite a bit during this last week we got thanks to pushing back the release by a week. As can be seen in the build notes, we got a bunch of things done. The most major of which is the day/night cycle which is now finally done after multiple months of it being worked on. Unless I counted wrong, we had 4 people work on the feature in total, which is probably the most any single PR has had ever in Thrive. Also a bunch of smaller fixes and tweaks made it in. Like for example the digestion efficiency now shows the numbers for all types to reduce player confusion regarding what's the point of the digestion types.
The launcher is also now basically ready for the 2.0 release, so this week has been very productive and not too stressful as things are looking good (and it's only Thursday) for RC being out on Saturday. Today's build will likely be pretty close to the RC, but there's one or two more changes that might make it in. The plan is to put out the RC and launcher 2.0 on Saturday. One of the new features in the launcher will be allowing playing public beta builds of Thrive when available. Before then if you want to give the day/night cycle a spin, please note that you need to specifically enable the feature (there's a screenshot in this post showing that option). This is because we really didn't have time to fully balance and add tutorials about the feature so we were afraid that it would negatively impact the new player experience. In this build:
- Added day/night cycle. Note that due to missing tutorials, balancing
etc. which we didn't have time for, you need to manually enable this
feature when starting a new game in the advanced options.
- Digestion efficiency display in the editor now shows the separate
values for each type of digestion to reduce player confusion
regarding them
- Adjusted the size and positioning of the main menu social buttons
and adjusted the Revolutionary Games links popup
- Fixed a rare crash when using a lot of slime jets
- Added a bandaid on infinite compound ejection due to engulfed object
having compounds with NaN amounts in it
- Tweaked the "no mods enabled" warning popup visuals
- Tweaked the Thriveopedia GUI
- Some miscellaneous changes and a few new things required by Launcher 2.0
- Updated translations
