Recommending this podcast for "Plur1bus" (and other shows): "Crazy Stupid Podcast." Episodes are typically short (less than 30 minutes), and the hosts are constantly teaching me something or making me think about it in a new way. Their insight, humor, chemistry (I think they're a couple), and level of discourse is my shit. Here's a link to their pod on Episodes 5-6: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbyu3E_MXfk&t=1116s. (I am not affiliated with this pod or these individuals in any way. I genuinely love their commentary. I found them when they were watching IWTV.)

Totally valid!! I was pretty defensive of her last episode because I was seeing a lot of criticism towards the character online and I don't think it justified. I mean, I do really like her. I think she's strong-willed, has good intentions, and I feel sympathetic to her character based on what she's been though post hive-mind. But yeah, I do see what you mean. She's pretty miserable. I would certainly struggle being around that energy irl (also I get the ick whenever she talks about her readers in a derogatory fashion 😅).

But guys, Carol IS miserable. That doesn't mean she's wrong but all Carol did was moan and groan even before the great conversion and I understand your POV on mental health but I feel it's still a valid point to make. I think it's ok for a character to be unlikeable but still be right. In fact maybe all of them are highly unhappy people (I might have said this in a previous comment). Lakshmi seems insufferable in general. There was that sad girl who just wanted to be with her cousin and aunt. I'll bet Khoumba is just as sad and miserable but trying to fill the void with all the sex and material things he suddenly has but it will never be enough.

Carol didn't turn down meeting the non-English survivors out of convenience, or because she stubbornly didn't want the hivemind's help. It's because she didn't want the hivemind to know about her trying to reverse what's happened. At that point Carol didn't really understand what the hive is like, and if they would try to stop her by force etc. and assumed that them hearing the plan could compromise it.

The Imperial Sky Villa (site of Elvis’ former room) at the Westgate costs about $20,000 per night.

After this episode my opinion on Mr. Diabaté has changed, he seems like a much more complex character that I hope we see more of. Also to note the Time Square scene you brought up while Carol arrived to Vegas is from the movie Vanilla Sky starring Tom Cruise.

MM101: Just a note to say how much I appreciate you going through the viewer comments before each subsequent episode. I don't know about everyone else, but it's nice to feel heard/be acknowledged.

To answer some of your technical questions, on the official podcast I believe they said that they did shoot at the real Westgate hotel. To get the shots of empty looking Vegas, they basically shot late at night where there would be minimal traffic/people and then did each shot multiple times, so that they could just composite the shots together to remove any people that ended up in them.

Good to see your reaction. I agree with you that Diabate likely had a more poor background. My headcanon is that he likely had a more poor upbringing where he got a lot of his joy from watching American tv/culture, so now that he has this opportunity he's living it up reenacting the stuff he saw (flying Air Force One, staying in the hotel Elvis did, acting out a James Bond scene/etc). I think eventually he will get bored of it though and realize with the hive he can never really have new/novel experiences like seeing someone just put together food in a different way like he did with Carol at breakfast, as everything the hive does is directed specifically by him.
