this, plus as we'll see in the next episode, louis and lestat both read her diaries, which she of course finds out about. going forward i can imagine she didn't entirely trust that she'd be the only one ever reading them, so things could potentially have a spin to them/omissions/etc? my mom snooped in one of my journals as a kid and i didn't write anything overly personal in a diary again, until i stopped living with her. ultimately i think claudia tells her truth, it's just that nobody can be 100% objective about anything, no matter how hard they try. (edit: i've now realized someone left a similar comment but i'll leave this anyway lol)

For Austin: Referencing Claudia being a reliable narrator In season 2, episode 1 she wrote that she didn’t dream and Louis said “let’s choose to believe her.” He later recalls her having a nightmare and says that Claudia just wrote it but it wasn’t true because she could dream.

FYI, this episode isn’t showing in the collection. It’s an issue with Patreon but you might want tell people they can find if they search in the search bar. I almost missed this one! It’s also happening with Alien Earth, the newest 2 episodes aren’t in the collection.

*SPOILER FOR DARKWAVE, FINE FOR MOVIEMAN* Well.. the way she recalled her transformation wasn't exactly reliable.. Or 'the fight'.. There were reasons for both obviously. Her perspective.. Her bias.. and when being turned she was out of it.

For Austin: I think Lestat treating Claudia the way he did about Charlie.. as cold as it was. Was hinting at maybe some previous traumas he has experienced and thusly why he had rules of not getting close to mortals. (Nicolas) I believe he was trying to spare her that future hurt. Albeit in a not so great way. His parenting lacks finesse for sure. Also.. a Kintsugi casket would go SOOO hard. I think id go Grey Italian Marble and gold for that idea. Heavy.. sure. But I'm a vampire.. Who gives a shit lol. Also bonus points for it being fireproof. Interior design is very prevalent in the books. HOWEVER. This is an adaptation.. As such.. This Dubai interview doesn't actually happen. It's primarily (The first book) told from San Francisco Daniel's interview. They modernized the show without taking away from it. The original book was written in that time period. Did such a great job. Perspective is still played with in the books.. in that the books individually are told from different perspectives. So as fans we are grateful they captured that essence in a different yet similar way. The Dubai interview is also a wonderful way to sort of update the show from the books time period to present day. I think Armand is playing up the religion.. As we know early on he was rooted in Christianity. Likely Roman Catholicism.. His covens reverence for the crucifix.. ect. However, "Lestats words were his feelings for quite some time" about god.. So I think he turned away from the idea of God in general. Of course he may have found religion later on in his life coming back to a different form of it. AND YES!! Go live sometimes!

claudia definitely was aged up for the show! she's turned at 14 and bailey bass was 18 while playing her. (and for season 2, delainey hayles is actually in her 20s playing her, not sure exactly how old she is, but she's shorter and baby faced so it works) i believe most of the reason why she's a little older is for logistical reasons, one being that they were only doing night shoots, and child labor laws are already strict in regards to that, but even more so specifically in louisiana. i think the other reason is just that they thought the subject matter would not be appropriate for someone younger to be acting out. kirsten dunst was 11 playing claudia in the film (which is also older than book claudia) and in my opinion, they had her do a few things in that movie that they should not have asked of her. ultimately i'll always prefer to suspend my disbelief a little and agree with the show's truth: that she's meant to look 14, instead of subjecting an actual kid to it. i think it works just as well, her plight is still essentially the same - she's just a forever young teen instead of a small child.

Yeah Darkwave. They did age Claudia up. She was 5 in the book, 10 in the movie and 14 here (the actor was 19 I think). Also, I don't think they really would want to use an actual child actor in that Charlie death scene.

Sam

Ohh darkwave. Lestat is definitely NOT the Mom. Lol. Think of the way he parents.. And also the dynamic between he and Louis where he clearly also plays the dominant role. Seemingly in life and the bedroom. (If, of course, we consider tradition and the time period. Obviously the dominant parent these days isn't always necessarily the father.) Claudia is 14 in this adaptation. Do not base things off the movie.. Which was further away from the source material then the series. However, in the books.. She is very young. I suggest forgetting the movie entirely.. As it was not in the same league as the show and definitely doesn't capture the essence as the show does. I can confidently say.. This is the BEST book to show adaptation EVER made. In fact it improves upon some of the source material (And I LOVE Anne Rice).. Which is UNHEARD of! Rolin Jones deserves awards.

*DARKWAVE SPOILER* I think Armand took it with him. Much like the cutting he took from the Coven. Or maybe he took a cutting and then Louis disposed of it. That seems more likely as Armand would be starting anew .. much like his cutting. As for show Armands religion.. dont forget he turned away from Christianity with the coven when Lestat transformed it.

This is not a spoiler or a fact, but I wonder if Armand isn't manipulating Daniel to bring on those dreams?? Maybe. Maybe not. But it's possible.

🚨🚨🚨 SPOILERS FOR DARKWAVE -- COMMENT FOR MOVIEMAN & PPL THAT HAVE SEEN IT ALL I think Claudia's early diary entries are most reliable. I would say, though, that once she starts to develop her own positions, resentments, traumas, etc., there's no way that it wouldn't color her diary entries. There's also the comment later on where she finds out they've read her diaries (not sure if it's this episode or next). Surely, after that, she might insert, exaggerate, or outwardly lie to F with them, knowing they may read it. We see her deceit in the next episode, I think, where they think she's not feeding, but she's going out when they don't see her. It makes so much sense - - and feels realistic -- that she would be spiteful and her feelings would influence what she writes as well as how she writes it. That's my take on it having been a (mortal) teenage girl.

On the interior design stuff, there may have been one but the story about the tree being there because the interior designer thought Louis was missing the outside world is likely false. The tree is Armand's. In episode 6 of season 2 (1940s Paris) when he goes to Louis' apartment with a suitcase pretending he left the coven, he has a cutting from the same tree. He's probably been growing it since then. At the end of season 2, after the breakup, the tree is no longer in the Dubai apartment. The assumption is that Louis got rid of it while cleansing his life of Armand. Edit: There's no way to go into your question on Armand's religion without book details/spoilers.
