Scott Gray, James Introcaso, and I are all hard at work on Fantastic Lairs. If you were a backer of the Kickstarter, you'll learn more on our next update.
Gencon was this past weekend and I had a chance to try out Zweihander, Swords of the Serpentine, and Tales of the Old Margreve. I always enjoy trying out new systems and new approaches for RPGs. Many experienced DMs will tell you that branching out and running other RPGs will have a big effect on how you run your game of choice, whatever it happens to be. We DMs have a great deal of freedom to change up how we run our games, regardless of our system, and can steal ideas and mechanics alike from all sorts of games. Running games like Dungeon World, Numenera, Shadow of the Demon Lord, Fate, and 13th Age gave me a lot of ideas that changed how I run my D&D games.
There are tons of awesome new D&D products coming out from third party publishers these days. One of them stands above the others, though. Exploring Eberron by Keith Baker. Keith is the original creator of Eberron and the DM's Guild gives him the ability to expand Eberron beyond what was published in Eberron: Rising of the Last War. I had the chance to preview Exploring Eberron and talked about it in the first half of this video. It's now available for purchase and I highly recommend it for fans of Eberron. There's a lot of lore to love in this book and it looks fantastic.
Just about every DM has half of an RPG they wrote sitting on their hard drive. For me it's Dungeons of Fate. Dungeons of Fate is intended to be a super-simple Fate-based RPG for D&D style games in which players can build characters in just a few minutes and DMs can make monsters and challenges up on the fly by just picking a level (sort of like Numenera). This past month I've updated it and you can download the game here.
