Playing D&D During a Pandemic

It's been quite a month for all of us. I count myself very lucky to be able to escape to D&D often in these dark times. All of my games have moved online and some have picked up more often. I'm now running two Eberron campaigns, an Avernus campaign, and a Margreve campaign. I'm running all of my games over Discord.

I am constantly fascinated by the durability and resilience of D&D as a hobby. Unlike just about any video or computer game, D&D could survive a nuclear war. There are millions of D&D books out there and those books aren't going anywhere. With care, our core books could last longer than our lives. Centuries. Perhaps longer.

With the Open Gaming License and the System Resource Document, we don't even have to count on Wizards of the Coast keeping up their support. We don't rely on Wizards of the Coast for our happiness. Any of us can extend, expand, or rebuild the game if we wish. Many people already have. Much of the world shut down when the Coronavirus hit but we can still play D&D and that's pretty great.

Products that Grabbed My Attention

There have been a lot of fantastic D&D products coming out that grabbed my attention. These include Empire of the Ghouls by Kobold Press; Elminster's Candlekeep Companion by Anthony Joyce, Justice Arman, Ed Greenwood, and MT Black; Tales and Tomes of the Forbidden Library by a whole ton of people; and the Ultimate Bestiary, the Dreaded Accursed by Nord games. Many third-party 5e publishers are putting out excellent books.
