Making a butterfly 🦋

I got into native gardening last year, and my local native gardening chapter is hosting an art show in april. I decided i wanted to apply for it! I'm going to be making 3 butterfly wall hangings by modifying nazfx's butterfly pattern. They are large - cats for scale!
First up is a monarch! The wings are done with sublimation using photos i took of a monarch that eclosed in my backyard. Her egg was laid on my native milkweed, which she ate as a caterpillar and then set up her chrysalis in my yard. And i got to see her up close when she eclosed! 🥰 She's still not done but I'm getting close to finishing her up. I'll also be making a zebra longwing which is florida's state butterfly. And, i haven't decided what the 3rd will be yet! 🤔 i wanted to work on these while i was feeling inspired and before the deadline to submit. I'll be picking work back up on the whale shark and cat in a box patterns soon!

2024-02-08 16:25:54 +0000 UTCWow! They look so realistic! Love how it's turning out! For the 3rd butterfly, may i suggest a Morpho menelaus? Not sure if there are any kind of velvety/shiny fabrics that could recreate its metallic appereance... 🤔
