Moon Knight S1 E3 (Full Reaction)

We are learning so much more about Khonshu and the other Egyptian Gods, which is both awesome and terrifying. I honestly think the last line of this episode was my favorite line yet. Ethan Hawke is a fantastic example of how every villain is the hero of their own story.

Good show. Sometimes it’s hard to see why characters don’t immediately side with protagonists, but they don’t have the full story like we do.

Yeah, one of the challenges that you had with the Egyptian gods is that... they're not gods that were worshiped for their kindness and benevolence. They were worshiped for the power they wielded. The worship was often more about placating them so that they didn't trample all over the humans clinging to life in the desert on the incredibly narrow spindle of farmable land that was the Nile River. That's the way it often was with ancient pantheons... they were peoples' ways of understanding the raw, untamed natural world that surrounded them, and their way of trying to appeal to it to not wipe them out with a rogue storm, earthquake, drought, or famine. When you get right down to it, in a lot of the mythologies, divinities of this time period were not kind. They were selfish, petty, and aloof. Even in Greco-Roman mythology, Scandinavian Mythology, and so many others, the gods have their own lives and squabbles, and humanity was just caught in the crossfire. I mean, heck... look even just at the Iliad and the way it describes the Trojan War's origins. It is a petty squabble between gods that ends up triggering a decade-long war that the gods have no interest in getting involved in. Then, in the Odyssey, because Poseidon was offended by something that Odysseus did, his crew was tossed about the Mediterranean for another decade on top of that.

Jax, meet May Calamawy. My sister first heard of her through a Hulu show called Ramy. I haven’t seen it yet, but she said May got to do a lot more in Moon Knight by comparison. Director Mohamed Diab fought for her character Layla to be Egyptian. While the story takes place in Egypt, they weren’t able to film in actual Egypt due to political climate. So the desert scenes were actually filmed in the Kingdom of Jordan which Oscar was already familiar with. Mohamed improvised bringing downtown Cairo into the show by replicating it in Budapest where they previously filmed Black Widow. The set they built was about four to five blocks wide. And finally, Anton Mogart/Midnight Man was portrayed by the late French actor Gaspard Ulliel. Last week marked three whole years since his passing after he had an accident at a skiing resort in France. This episode was one of his final projects released posthumously and it was dedicated to him. Gaspard was 37 years old.
