Spider-Man (Full Reaction)

Kicking off our Spider-Man movie marathon is the first film in the Tobey Maguire trilogy! I saw this movie over twenty years ago, which just makes me feel old! Since I hadn't seen it since it was out in the theaters, there was so much I didn't remember.

It was so cool to realize there were some reoccurring characters in the MCU Spider-Man movies like Flash and John Jonah Jameson Jr. from the Daily Bugle.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!❤️

Quick explanation on the webs from wrists. At the time they were making this movie, in the comics he did have organic webs at the time due to the plot. The web gadgets originally were a creation of his. They come and go depending on the story.

Absolutely enjoyed the one liners and the sass, the sass is always fun. You wouldn't believe how many reactors go from watching these movies to watching the MCU and wondering why they aren't coming out of the wrists as well, only a little frustrating for comics fans that this happens :P

Andrew Polinski

It blew my mind 🤯 If only I knew what Blu-Ray and 4K would look like 😅

Future_Boy85

The mirror scene was brilliant! Willem Dafoe was really able to showcase his acting abilities there. The upside down kiss was iconic! I remember it winning an MTV movie award, back when I used to watch that award show. Hope you enjoy the second one too!

Jacqueline

Oooh, a love trapezoid! I like it! Happy holidays!!

Jacqueline

He was perfect in this role!!

Jacqueline

That's so cool that they included the original Spider-Man music in the credits!!

Jacqueline

That's so cool!!! What a great movie to see on DVD!

Jacqueline

I was quite confused in the MCU when the webs weren't coming out of Tom's wrists because I remembered how his webs worked in this film. I do think the other versions emphasize Peter's intelligence a bit more. Hope you enjoyed my one liners!!! Thanks for watching!

Jacqueline

What!? That's impressive! Go Tobey!!

Jacqueline

Your uncle is amazing for taking you and your cousin to all the different theaters. That is dedication! These actors do look older than teenagers, but I didn't catch that either when I was younger. That's so true that to a kid, teenagers seem soooo old!

Jacqueline

Tom and Zendaya are great together in the Spider-Man movies! Yeah, the romance here is a little questionable. I'm still rooting for them though!

Jacqueline

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! That's so cool they had a midnight showing for this film!

Jacqueline

I had a blast revisiting this one! I remember lining up with my high school friends at the mall to see the midnight showing. Bygone days.

Mike Smith

Tobey's movies are great classics but all of the romance is so toxic. On all sides, the whole trilogy. Andrew's and Tom's movies have some of the best romantic interests. Especially Tom and Zendaya.

Omg I remember being 12 years old my uncle taking my cousin and I to every theater cause almost all of the screenings were sold out! Luckily we found one that wasn't and my love of superhero films really took shape cause I saw a comic come to life! Getting the DVD and watching the special features over and over. I do agree with you tho...as much as I love these films, Tom Holland is my favorite spidey he really captured that real teenage experience. I kind of laugh watching the "teens" in this cause they're so old lol the teacher looks the same age in the beginning lol but when you're 12 teenagers look way older than you so whateves lol but yes totally having fun watching these with you!

Armando Castillo

Almost 23 years and I still think this is the best origin story superhero film. It set the standard for a long time. Also, Tobey really did do the cafeteria tray scene for real, no CG tricks. Took 156 takes to get it right!

To this day it still pisses me off the whole shooting the webs out of the wrists, instead of the mechanical web shooters, and it comes down to that the mechanical web shooters and the web fluid he created is a perfect example of a way to show how smart he is, rather than they telling us. This has nothing to do with these movies specifically, but Mary Jane Watson is my most hated love interest in all of comics history, in nearly all media be it comics, animated fare, and to some extent this movie she comes off as selfish and self absorbed. For me Gwen Stacy has always been my favourite P.P love interest because they are intellectual equals and have mutual love and respect towards each other and without M.J's biggest flaws, followed by Felicia Hardy AKA Black Cat. Now with my rant over and done with, lets get into watching this because at the end of the day I'm here for the Jax one liners, and the all round joy Jax brings to the reactions.

Andrew Polinski

This Spider-Man movie was the first DVD I ever owned. I think I actually got it as a Christmas gift from my Mom or Grandma. Along with my first ever DVD player 😁🎄❤️

Future_Boy85

I fermenter getting chills in the theater in 2002 when I first saw Tobey McGuire climb the wall, and the original Spider-Man theme music from the 1960s/70s era cartoon during the end credits. Tobey is so the best, even though none were bitten by aradioactive spider in the live action movies.

Stan Johnston

J.K. Simmons is so great as J. Jonah Jameson.

David Bourgeois

a modern day shakespearean story, it’s pretty funny in its own right and the love trapezoid was very messy. i’d say the tom holland movies are definitely written and geared in a different direction than this but i like them both regardless. happy holidays jax and everyone!

TokyoLopez

I adore this movie! I try not to be biased to these films, but I grew up with them, so it's really hard not to be 😅 I'm happy you felt empathy for Norman's character, as I totally agree. He was a decent person, and the serum just completely drove his mind into insanity. One piece of trivia that shows how Willem Dafoe just killed this role, is that upon getting cast, Sam Raimi gave Willem a copy of Jekyll and Hyde and had him read it, to really get into the mindset of playing a man with two completely different halves. That mirror scene is one of my favorite pieces of acting just ever, because it's just Willem Dafoe having to switch so seamlessly with his personalities without any effects or anything helping him. Tobey Maguire is really great as Peter Parker I think, nostalgia aside he just does a great job for this early 2000s era. Last thing, that upside down kiss, is one of the most iconic cinematic kisses in all of media, and.... it actually isn't based off of the comics! It wasn't torn right out of the page, it actually was a full creative choice, and I just love that cinema gave us such an amazing romantic piece. I'm so excited for Spider-Man 2 Jax! See you then!

Lorenzo Baxter

I have my christmas morning!!! nostalgia, jax and holiday spirit! thanks Jax! Hope you might check out titan a.e. for a new years movie :D Happy christmas!

Cojuancidence

I remember seeing this in theatres. Hard to believe that was over 20 years ago 😩. The music from this trilogy hasn’t been topped by any other comic book movie yet. Looking forward to watching it with you.
