Plenty of creative license went into the IP address plot point, and the geolocation discovery, considering it was only 1986, and they dialled directly into the computer π€£

2024-04-09 09:32:13 +0000 UTCIn the 80's and 90's there was an epidemic of Satanic Panic, where a lot of murders and other crimes where blamed on Satan worshipers or things that the public deemed as satanic. Dungeons and Dragons was targeted by this and blamed it for causing kids to go crazy and worship Satan, that they would get too into it and start believing the fantastic world is real life. Which is ridiculous when people think about it now. I have played it for 12 years and when I started even my mom in passing said she heard about people getting way too into it and losing their sense of reality. Which again is not D&Ds fault. And she knows this now, but it is interesting to see how stuff just gets passed along as fact cause they heard about it from somewhere
