Diablo’s Music Broke My Brain *Patreon Version*

Hello!! Diablo video time!! Hope y'all like this one!

I'm still working on all the stuff I talked about in the Suicide Squad video post two weeks ago, so not much new to report. I'm planning to talk about Vampire Hunter D in the next video, so we'll see how that goes!

Anyways,
Thanks for the support everyone!
Simon

ALSO! My mum told me that sometimes these embedded video posts don't work on the Patreon IOS App for her. So I'll include the video link here as well just in case: https://youtu.be/sYV0SfWC4HI

Hey thanks for watching it! I also appreciate the constructive criticism, as I'm always trying to improve 😅

I liked the historical perspective you gave, and I appreciate you dredging through old Diablo 2 websites to find information that hasn't been brought forward to the modern internet. The notion that the composer was focused on "maximalism" and lots of chaotic overlapping sounds and instruments was really neat, especially considering the main Tristram theme is unlike the rest of the soundtrack - it's the track I remember most clearly and probably what many other people do. I'm hearing more of your personality come through, which is welcome, but I do think some of your jokes overstayed their welcome. It's fine if you don't have much to say past "the drums make this sound chaotic" since not everything is always so complicated, but there were several times when it seemed like you were reaching for words or slowing down mid-sentence and it reduced the impact of what you were saying. And the race jokes were really stretching thin too; when you mentioned Polish colorism I didn't think of anything except artistic color, and the remark about Picasso "doing something racist" with his painting of the women didn't add anything. Overall this was a solid video, and as someone who really can't stand Diablo and games like it I learned a lot about music that I otherwise never would've listened to. Keep it up!
