Project Kamp S6 Winter Update #1

Hey Friends,

In this first winter post we bring you some pictures on how things are doing at kamp now almost everyone is away, some pictures to update on the planted and seeded areas, small news and a cool comparison with drone pictures on how the land evolved over the year. Hope you like it!

It's been a month since people left. To us it felt like really quick and at the moment there is not much life at Kamp, just a few of us around. Not really easy with all the rain and cold weather, even now having well-isolated trailers, going to the toilet or cooking in the kitchen container can be challenging. Looking forward to the community center.

Last week we uploaded the last episode to Youtube. Thanks for all the positive comments and feedback on small technical, appreciate them. 🙂

Overall we are not getting out of our low trend in youtube. Last episode got less viewss than we thought. Might be more intimidating for a casual viewer to watch a longer update, who knows. But you guys and many people loved it and that makes us happy. And even though less people watched, being a longer update made a difference with the income. 💸

So youtube still unstable but Patreon feels solid for us ❤️. We will see next year what changes we can make to improve and maybe we still need to get some sponsors. We will share some financial (and other) stats later in the winter. 📊

And on the buying of the land, we are still a bit away from our goal, but we are convinced we will get there one way or another. So now we have more time we went for a small exploration with our neighbours. 🔍

Also from a neighbour we have some sheep grazing around. But sorry for now we don't have plans to buy any. 🐑

And we have some pictures of the areas we seeded and planted in the last episode. Getting greener! 🌿

Still not a lot on the lake, probably because it's a more shaded area.
But planted trees seem to root.
Yei!
Seems the root pile got smaller. Maybe the rain?
And the slope starts to get green, as it gets more sun exposure.
Also the fridgebox slope got better.
Maybe, as it was digged late in the season the soil remained a bit more healthy.

Let's see how it goes over winter and next spring. Is quite impressive to see landscape changing over the year. We take drone shots of the land regularly so we can take you on this colorful trip. Also nice to see the project evolving. 💪

Season 4. For reference.
Season 5, April. All green. Just after we moved the fridgebox. Big chopping operation in the community center area. Granite ruin is there.
Jun. Landscape gets less green. Granite roof extension under construction and many vans parked at BK. Community center area being digged.
Ago. Everything dried up. Brick ruin and lake areas chopped, and Material bank ready! Also finished the community center area.
Oct. Driest moment of the year. We cleared new van spaces in BK and in the middle land. Our root pile became massive. Brick ruin got a roof.
Nov. Getting green again. Cleared around the Granite ruin and planted and seeded next to the lake.

And here some shots of Basekamp. Little improvements here and there (can you spot them?) and big change in the colors of nature.

April.
June.
August.
October.
November.

And that was it for this first winter update! If you have any thoughts on what you would like to see from kamp let us know. Ah! and some applications for next year are already open. You can check them at projectkamp.com/support.html

Thanks for being there all the way and see you next month! 🫶

Comments

Thanks for the update. I think the root pile got smaller because the soil that was clumped to the roots got washed away with rain :-)

Reading the comment about the bathrooms, kitchen, etc during the winter, I know the community center will partially help with that but I hope that you can add in at least one toilet in the middle land for your own convenience! I honestly always thought that the Brick ruin could have been made into a great communal bathroom/shower location with multiple stalls, etc. Clearly you are going a different way with it but I know that my wife has specifically said that a major deterrent of ever living like this or even spending time here would be not having easy bathroom access!
