Project Kamp week ahead #153

Hey Friends,

This week, we have two cool projects led by women. First, Monique is building a custom door using leftover materials. After that, Julie and Alana will update us on an experiment they started a year ago to eliminate mimosas.

You may notice that this week's video was uploaded to the main channel instead of the 4K one. We want to conduct a small test to see if views and comments from Patreon can help boost the algorithm when the video is published for everyone. Let's see! 👀

A lot has been happening this week!

The workspace team is fully engaged in framing the brick ruin, which involves quite a bit of woodworking.

Quite long these beams.

Menno is working on the outdoor kitchen of the Granite ruin/house, while Miguel is finishing the upper room of the same structure. Our clay oven was in need of repair. The last fix lasted a year, so hopefully, we can keep this one running until we have the community center, at which point we can upgrade to a better version.

We also made a much-needed upgrade to our chimney by adding a metal piece to prevent the pipe from burning the wood of the wall.

Speaking of fire, this year has been quite intense. This NASA map shows fire activity over the last two weeks. While we are not in the worst area, we have already experienced some nearby fires. 🔥

As a precaution, we are taking extra care with fire safety. We have created a board to keep track of who is currently on the land in case we need to evacuate, ensuring that no one is left behind. We also acquired a fire blanket for the kitchen and a loud horn to alert people, even if they are away from Base Kamp.

It’s very hot and dry these days. The landscaping team found some refuge in the bottom room of the sketchy ruin, which now features a new (pre-loved) table. Stay hydrated! 🥵🌡️ Working with power tools is quite limited in this heat, but some tasks can still be done by hand. What better way to cope with the heat than working IN the lagoon?

However, summer also brings some cool perks. The variety of vegetables and fruits is delightful. So far, we haven’t had to deal with overproduction (after the oranges), but who knows...

Anyway, for now it's fine for our kitchen team.

We also have some production happening on the land. It’s small and mostly for fun, but our little garden is yielding some tomatoes. 🍅

And let’s not forget our fruit trees! 🍏

But let’s be honest—sometimes people crave junk food, or even more, they enjoy a good challenge. Cameron and Menno took on the pizza challenge at a local fast-food place. Spoiler alert: they were not successful, but we had some fun.

That wraps up this week! Thank you for supporting the project, and we hope you enjoy the update. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite thumbnail! 👇

I always love the fact that you play the tune of Once in Royal David's City (in this episode from 17minute onwards). Its such a traditional Christmas Hymn played in the depths of winter with snow on the ground but its the soundtrack to you guys all suffering in the heat....it puts an extra smile on my face.
