Luigis Process Explanation Post - How He Goes About Creating Art and Being Productive!

My biggest and most boring advice for Doing Art and being productive with it, is just do it. Just draw anyway even if you dont want to or feel like it, if you cant draw then dont and just observe.

I mean 'observe' like, start watching movies, start listening to music, just start absorbing art in its different mediums that you personally find inspirational! look at how things are Made, learn different processes!

i personally love speedpaints, animated movies, warrior cat maps/amvs, amvs from tv shows, and just illustrative art, and of course music!

i feel like 'observation' periods are just as, if not MORE important than actually drawing. and a good thing to keep in mind if youre stuck in a rut, youll come out of it eventually and youll have so much pure magic of things you enjoy in your brain cache to pull from- or look directly and use references from your favorite art pieces ( if visual )

theres absolutely Nothing wrong with reference, even other styles (just dont rip it and pass it off as your own work- but i also firmly believe its impossible to rip 100% smth bc you will always in some way make it twinged with your own essence)

for my own personal advice, and how i try to look at creating my own art: is that :: having exact or even Good proportions isnt everything. sometimes things look better broken. sometimes things look more Interesting when theyre off or stylized. keeping silhouettes in mind could be beneficial!

anyway now that the random advice is out of the way for art in general (but its things to keep in mind if youre stuck in a rut i feel!!) you just gotta draw as well, i feel like even during observational periods, doodling or sketching if you have the bones for it is so worth it!! even if its the same thing over and over, no matter what it is, even if its just scribbles

i have been Obsessed with drawing, my whole life. i have made it my hobby, my job, my special interest, my connectivity, my muse, my love. im not saying that you have to do the same to follow my regimen, but its a good thing to keep in mind as well.

for that reason, ive always just been idly doodling, nonstop. with that said: i draw what i want, i draw it over again if i want, Immediately. i finish a piece, or ditch it and then it becomes finished in that moment- even if i had more plans for it. its ok. you can revisit, you can redraw, you can come back

with commission work, i try to knock it out as fast as i can, to keep myself preoccupied. i love having Something to draw- commissions give me an excuse to have something to finish! and i get money in exchange, but if im not feeling like drawing a certain commission.

i will take time for myself, ill draw personal art, ill do a different commission, a project. if i get bored, i switch it up and change what im working on! i have a short attention span, so im always hopping from one piece to the next- working on as much as i want to work on for it until im done with it (done doesnt have to mean finished).

if i need a break, i take it. i dont time myself, i take it easy. i let myself destress and relax for however long i need it before i get back to a drawing or drawing in general, i never beat myself up over taking needed breaks... or i try not to! i can get frustrated with alot on my plate but i also kind of like it like that, always something to do!

its important to take care of your wrists, i have cbd lotion, a wrist brace, and tiger balm to use to keep my wrists from hurting. ibuprofen or anything that reduces swelling could be nice as well, or a heat pad or ice pack. doing stretches is very important (and i need to start adding them to my routine!!!!!)

while painting while using fire alpaca (marker brush my love) i managed to really hurt my wrist and now i get pain flare ups from time to time because of that. so take time to give your body a rest and try to not overdo it- taking care of yourself is essential for continuing to do what you wanna do!!! so take that break when your body or mind is telling you to, burn out sucks!

music memes (luckysquid on devarts one in particular) help me get out of ruts alot. putting music and drawing together is always a good idea- and drawing TO a song is beautiful, gets your mind working, you attribute personal meaning to songs.

youre the only one that Feels the way you do about a piece of art youre experiencing- so put down what youre feeling!!! if i dont have a scene set in my mind or random objects or visuals from a song.. i try to get what colors it makes me think of, what kind of textures. is it blurry and far away? sharp and disorientating? bubbly and soft? try to emulate those feelings, again even if you just scribble scratch it out crudely that is still getting something down!! you could even get sparked to do an entire piece just based off your music meme thumbnail! its awesome

a way i keep myself preoccupied also while drawing so i dont get bored, is having two windows open: one with a video playing, and the other my drawing program. so i could draw and watch idly, almost mindlessly, just to have my hand moving !

thank you for reading, I hope any of this could give insight or hopefully help some people out with their own art processes!!! have a good day :-D happy 7/11
