Update on Enchroma Investigation - Part 3 Incoming!
Added 2024-02-13 00:00:33 +0000 UTCI'm working on Part 3!!
Recent revelations have made it clear that this journey is far from over, and I'm eager to share some of the groundbreaking details with you all.
Firstly, a crucial piece of information has come to light regarding EnChroma's non-prescription lenses. They are registered with the FDA as "sunglasses," which is significant due to the stringent guidelines the FDA enforces on labeling and marketing for sunglasses in the U.S. If a company claims that their sunglasses offer benefits beyond the typical uses, these claims require FDA clearance. After learning this, I reached out to the FDA for specific clarification on EnChroma's marketing claims, to understand whether they are acceptable for the product class. Spoiler alert, they're not. The FDA pointed out that there are currently no FDA cleared color deficiency lenses for non-prescription use AND that any such claims would need to be reviewed by the FDA. Crazy right?
It gets juicier... During EnChroma's inception, co-founder Don McPherson applied for 3 Small Business Innovation Research grants, all of which were awarded and funded under the National Institutes of Health totaling $1.2m. I have evidence suggesting his grant applications contained scientific models that were incorrect/inaccurate. This funding was instrumental in EnChroma's research and development phase during its inception.
That's all I can share for now.
