Private Poll Experiment

Hey everyone!

In recent months, I've noticed there's been a pretty clear bias towards the suggestions with larger sizes in the private sketch polls. Personally, while I do enjoy drawing the larger sizes, I'd like to try and foster a little more variety if possible. For this reason, I'm thinking of making some changes to this month's poll as an experiment.

I will specify up front, if you request was for a specific size, the character will still be drawn at that size. I won't compromise the request, that wouldn't be fair.

However, my plan is as follows: When I put out the poll, the descriptions for each character's scenario will not include the requested size. My hope is that this will lead to the options being judged on the merits of the ideas themselves, rather than size. Again, the character would still be drawn at the suggested size, you just wouldn't see it specified on the post itself. And for those who just want to vote on these sketches with size taken into account, you will still be able to check the suggestion in full, on the suggestions post linked below:

And if you haven't made a suggestion yet, you've still got about a day and a half from now to do so.

This is just something I wanted to try out to see how it goes. I also think it's important to ask how you guys feel about this idea. If you could leave any thoughts or feedback about it down in the comments below it'd be very much appreciated!

Thank you for the feedback. I get what you're saying, but that's not really what the point of me doing this is. The point of what we wanted to do here is to create a balance so one factor (between character, size, and scenario) doesn't dominate the voting trends. We already have rules in place to encourage character variety. No characters that have received private sketches within the last four months are eligible, and neither are any characters from the previous sketches with a similar theme. I don't like the idea of locking characters out of polls just because they're popular, because it would be a nightmare to moderate and decide which should be disqualified. Though I may not agree that there's an issue, I do appreciate you sharing your feelings on the matter. If there's anything else you want to say on the matter to add context, or because you feel I've missed something, please do.

Hmm...honestly, I don't think that's enough for a fair and unbiased poll. Let's be real here, 99% of users here are just going to vote for their favorite waifu (Who is almost always from a popular and beloved anime). Those who like more unknown, underrated characters don't have much of a chance anyway. Hiding the weight would be a little pointless imo

I've noticed this trend towards larger sizes as well. I personally prefer your artwork leaning on the smaller sizes, and feel like they're not as represented. Not a complaint as I enjoy all of your work, but definitely hope this change leads to more variety and representation of sizes and body types.

I get what you're saying. However, allow me to clarify a couple things: We already have rules in place to encourage character variety. No characters that have received private sketches within the last four months are eligible, and neither are any of the four characters from last year's party themed sketches. With regards to your point on accessing the suggestions post, both the suggestions post and poll are only accessible for those on the $10 tier, so everyone who can vote can also see the suggestions. The point of what we want to do here is to create a balance so one factor (between character, size, and scenario) doesn't dominate the voting trends. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts, and if you have anything else to say on the matter with the added context, please do.

Good idea. I wish you took even more executive control sometimes honestly.

I think hiding size details in the poll while keeping them accessible in the linked post is a smart compromise - it lets voters focus on the character concepts themselves while still respecting original requests. Testing this for a couple of months would likely help create some variety. :)

I think this is a fair rule to implement. Things would get very same-y very fast without this.

I dunno, I think the context is important, but you are the boss

One of the problems is that anyone with access to both the suggestion thread and the poll will have easy access to that information, even if it isn’t everyone voting. And without any context, the results really will just boil down to a character popularity poll even more than a size popularity poll.
