2024-11-28 23:26:05 +0000 UTCThis is always the problem with random popularity polls where anything can be included, you'll often get a bunch of unique rarely seen characters that would be great to see...and then there's the obligatory current hot show's character added or some classic with 50,000 images already that gets included and those obviously then crush the competition. I ain't blaming anyone here just pointing out the general frustration many fans tend to feel with polls. I remember the borderline hatred another artists community had for MHA as everytime one of their characters was included it would dominate the polls. Some artists I've followed have different solutions from character or even franchise bans if it wins way too much, or having stuff like runner up pieces, often as sketches which sometimes can later be upgraded to inks and colors. Unfortunately at the end of the day a popularity poll will never be fair that's just the nature of them, and there will always be the duality of those tired of seeing the same character done by a thousand artists and those who want to see that character drawn a thousand different ways. As someone in both camps I'll always be annoyed when a fun smaller character gets added or an older nearly forgotten character thst used to be popular get added who clearly have no shot at winning making it feel cruel for their inclusion, but at the same time I'll usually be interested in how my fav artists will draw some of my fav popular characters. Especially when it's out of the box like with salt where the possibilities (and Rosalinas waistline) are endless given the variety they produce with each piece. Sorry for the rant I hope I represented the feelings of the different sides of these debates well enough, no hate here just some venting and hoping everyone comes out with more understanding for each other since at the end of the day we're all here for the same reasons, marshmallowy goodness 💜

But at the end of the day, the point of the polls is for people to suggest and vote on who they'd like to see most. I can't reject characters for the polls just because they're popular. That's not fair on the people who want to see them, and also it's hard to quantify what characters would even be considered too popular in the first place. Also, from my point of view on things, I think it's a little unfair to lump me drawing a character I've personally never drawn before in with all of the fat art that has been done of that character in the entire community. Finally, with regards to what you said about size, that's something we've taken steps to try and mitigate. After I divided up the sizes for the upgrade polls there has been a much larger variety in sizes coming out of the polls. And even though the last upgrade poll I put out didn't have size restrictions, the winner was far smaller than the majority of sketches on it, a good few of which were characters you could also argue are currently more popular than her. I'm not saying this to be argumentative. I'm mostly just explaining why we make the decisions we do and that, from our perspective working on this stuff every day and running it all, things aren't as dire as you might think they are.

Your polls contain such a wide variety of shapes, sizes and characters yet the only ones who win are often whoever is the biggest or is most popular at that point in time. It really makes it feel like there's no point in there being over a dozen options if only two are going to get the overwhelming majority.

Rosalina is currently winning the poll. I have never done a piece of her before. It doesn't matter if other artists have made pieces of her before because people are voting to see her drawn by me. I understand if you find it frustrating that characters you've seen drawn fat before are winning. But at the end of the day, the purpose of these polls is so people get to take part in deciding what art is drawn by me, and all of these characters follow the rules I made for the poll nominations. I won't tolerate you being rude to the other patrons about it.

2024-11-25 21:14:00 +0000 UTCI'm talking in general. If I go to deviantart and type Rosalina in the favorites section of a weight gain writer I follow I get nearly 400 results. Komi gets nearly 300. My point is that every fat artist has done those two at least 3 times each (salt alone has done Komi at least 3 times).
