Chapter 31: I have become the Child Emperor

"Zank the Beheader," Captain Ogre growled, his voice filled with seething anger as he locked eyes with the menacing figure before him. Standing atop the lifeless bodies of three Capital guards, Zank exuded an air of brutality, his blades tainted with the blood of his victims. It was the first time Captain Ogre had encountered Zank in person, and the sheer audacity of his gruesome acts fueled a burning rage within him.

But those who truly knew Captain Ogre understood that his anger ran deeper than mere patriotism. The love for the Empire had long been lost to him, replaced by a seething discontent. His fury at Zank stemmed from the impact these killings had on his already tarnished image within the Capital. Despite the Emperor's attempts at reforms, Captain Ogre remained skeptical, believing it was only a matter of time before he could return to his previous ways. For now, all he desired was to maintain a low profile, but Zank's relentless actions hindered his plans. Outwardly, Captain Ogre presented himself as saddened and angered by the continuous bloodshed, but deep down, he was irked that Zank's actions were occurring under his watch.

"Interesting," Zank's voice resonated with maniacal amusement as he flicked the blood off his katar blades. "Finally, a worthy opponent has arrived," he declared, his words laced with sadistic pleasure. "Killing you will be an amusing endeavor," he added, a sinister grin stretching across his face.

While Captain Ogre maintained his composure, inwardly his annoyance grew. He knew that facing Zank head-on was inevitable, a confrontation that would test his resolve and force him to address the turmoil that Zank had wrought upon the Capital. Suppressing his frustrations, Captain Ogre steeled himself, ready to put an end to Zank's reign of terror and regain control over the chaotic situation.

Captain Ogre swiftly assessed the situation, his gaze shifting to the five Capital guards accompanying him on their patrol. With a sense of urgency, he addressed his comrades, their blades now unsheathed and ready for battle.

"Listen up," Captain Ogre commanded, his voice firm and authoritative. "Zank possesses an Imperial Arms, Spectator. We cannot afford to underestimate him. Our lives and the safety of the Capital depend on our unity. Watch each other's backs and stay alert."

The guards nodded in unison, their expressions determined, fully grasping the gravity of the task at hand. Each member of the patrol had diligently gathered crucial intelligence on Zank, meticulously documenting every relevant piece of information about his past as an executioner of the Empire. Amongst that valuable knowledge was the understanding of Zank's teigu and its capabilities.

"Oh, you guys did your research," Zank taunted, his voice laced with a mixture of derision and confidence. "But that won't save you?," he added with a chilling grin, reveling in the impending chaos.

With an unfathomable display of fearlessness, Zank lunged forward, charging at the six individuals standing before him. Captain Ogre, recognizing the imminent threat, swiftly stepped in, intercepting Zank's ferocious charge with his own blade. The clash between their weapons sent shockwaves through the surroundings, causing the very air to explode with unrestrained power.

Amusement danced in Zank's eyes as he launched a flurry of rapid attacks against Captain Ogre, seeking to overwhelm his opponent. Yet, Captain Ogre remained steadfast, unyielding in the face of Zank's relentless assault. Their movements were a blur of motion, their blades striking with such speed and force that the five other guards could barely comprehend the flurry of exchanges unfolding before their eyes.

Caught in the whirlwind of the intense duel, the guards struggled to track the swift maneuvers of the two combatants. The blades flashed and danced with deadly precision; their strikes accompanied by the resonating clash of steel. Each parry, each counterattack, was executed with astonishing skill and unwavering resolve.

"You have skill," Zank taunted, a smug grin stretching across his face. "But it's time for me to get serious," he declared, his voice laced with a newfound confidence. In an instant, Zank activated his teigu, unleashing its formidable insight and foresight abilities that shattered the stalemate immediately.

Reacting with uncanny speed and precision, Zank effortlessly evaded Captain Ogre's latest attack, leaving him momentarily stunned. With a swift and vicious counterattack, Zank's blade found its mark, piercing through Ogre's upper arm. Pain seared through Ogre's body as he instinctively jumped back, creating some distance between himself and his cunning opponent.

Blood trickled from the wound, staining Ogre's uniform, and disbelief flickered in his eyes. "You weren't using your teigu before?" he exclaimed, a mix of shock and anger intertwining in his voice. He had mistakenly believed that he could match Zank's assault, he underestimated the true extent of his adversary's physical abilities.

"You were toying with me?" Ogre spat, his grip on his blade tightening as he realized the true extent of the capabilities of the person in front of him.

A smirk played on Zank's lips, his amusement palpable. "Why would I give it my all straight off the bat? Where's the fun in that?", he quipped, his tone dripping with condescension. Zank's words only served to further ignite the flames of fury within his opponent's heart.

Captain Ogre's voice boomed with urgency as he directed his guards, "What are you doing?! Attack him simultaneously! It matters not if he anticipates our every move. We will overwhelm him with sheer numbers!" His words reverberated with determination, rallying his comrades for a coordinated assault.

With a shared understanding, Captain Ogre and the five Capital guards swiftly closed in on Zank, encircling him from all directions. Their blades glinted in the light as they prepared to unleash a flurry of attacks, their unity serving as their greatest strength. But Zank remained unfazed, his composure eerily unshaken.

Zank activated his teigu, tapping into its formidable power to read the minds of his opponents, allowing him to anticipate their every move. Despite the guards' best efforts to strategize and coordinate their attacks, Zank's foresight granted him a seemingly insurmountable advantage.

One by one, the guards' assaults were deftly dodged or effortlessly parried by Zank's calculated movements. His anticipation of their actions allowed him to exploit the slightest hesitation or weakness in their strikes. The battlefield became a display of Zank's dominance as the guards, despite their valiant efforts, succumbed to his superior skill.

Even Captain Ogre found himself on the brink of defeat, his every move thwarted by Zank's uncanny ability to predict his actions. In a desperate bid to protect himself, Captain Ogre made a split-second decision. Seizing one of his fellow guards, he used him as a shield, placing him between himself and Zank's imminent killing blow towards himself.

"No! Captain Ogre, why?!", a mixture of shock and horror swept over the guard as he screamed for his life as Zank's blade landed perfectly on his heart.

"How cruel of you, captain", Zank stated as the guard fell down to the ground.

The once-ferocious battle had reduced the scene to a haunting silence, interrupted only by the sound of Captain Ogre's labored breathing. He stood alone, surrounded by the fallen bodies of his comrades.

"Tsk... This is not good," Captain Ogre muttered to himself, his voice laden with frustration and a tinge of despair. The reality of his predicament weighed heavily upon him as he surveyed the battlefield, his body now riddled with numerous wounds. The horrible act he had just made using one of his capital guards as a shield seemed inconsequential to him whatsoever.

With a sinister smirk, Zank declared, "It's time to end this." Swift as a shadow, he propelled himself towards his opponent, his Katar blades a blur of lethal precision. The barrage of relentless attacks threatened to overwhelm Ogre, his wounds throbbing with each movement. Yet, he mustered every ounce of strength to fight back, defiance burning in his eyes.

As the clash of steel intensified, resonating through the air. Beads of sweat trickled down Ogre's furrowed brow as he realized the grim inevitability of his impending demise. Death loomed before him, as Zank's final blow, aimed at his neck, inching closer with terrifying velocity.

Summoning every ounce of his will, Ogre attempted to raise his arm, desperate to block the lethal strike. But his body, ravaged by numerous cuts, betrayed him. His movements were sluggish, his reflexes dulled by his grievous wounds. The realization washed over him, bringing with it a chilling acceptance of his fate. He was defenseless against Zank's killing blow, unable to escape the clutches of death closing in.

Yet, just as the blade of doom loomed dangerously close to Ogre's neck, an unexpected twist of fate altered the course of the battle. A swift arrow whizzed through the air, striking Zank's blade with precise accuracy. The force of impact sent it careening off course, sparing Ogre from the fatal blow. In rapid succession, two more arrows followed, aimed directly at Zank's body.

Reacting with lightning reflexes, Zank instinctively leaped back, narrowly avoiding the deadly projectiles. His eyes widened with surprise and irritation as he took in the scene before him. Three young individuals could be seen running towards the battleground, each had an eager glimmer in their eyes as they held their weapons in their hands.

"The new ruler must determine all the injuries that he will need to inflict. He must inflict them once and for all." This is the difference between execution of justice and tyranny. Since he already used this one chance, he should now give up his judicial powers after the formation of courts, fixed laws with penalties and a full fledged justice system.
