Valentine's Day Q&A

If you have any questions drop them below. There's a chance Mrs. Beau might answer a few too this time is you have any for her.

Comments

Here's a crazy question lol and maybe You might think it's ridiculous. However, I've been doing some reading recently on the predictions of Nostradamus and the third Antichrist. Maybe just for funsies? lol since everything is so freaking bleak these days. I'd love your take on it. Thanks for everything you do.

Stephanie

Thing you have it that polls are biased because they select for gullible people. (Who will respond to a poll request)

Eric Schaffer

Would you ever consider doing a series (Patreon exclusive or otherwise) on Marxist theory? As a long time watcher and new patron, I've always loved your analyses of politics and policy, but am curious as to the foundational knowledge used in how you approach filtering and piecing together the whole picture based on historical, material conditions through the lens of modern media. Thanks for all the work you do educating the masses!

Jeffrey Urcheck

I love my birthday. There was always a party at school, and it's not such a big holiday that you get ripped off on other presents like at Christmas. :-)

Andrea Smith

Happy Birthday! I always thought Valentine's Day would be a cool birthday, but then I met someone whose birthday is December 25th and realized it can make your birthday a challenge.

Georgia RN

Would love to see this as well. As a happily married woman, a lot of people come to me for dating and relationship advice and as a GenX'er we are just built different than newer more online generations!

Georgia RN

Sorry to hear that Patti. I've been with my husband for sixteen years and am very happily married myself. I really can't imagine any person really thinking this behavior is okay. I worked with a nurse who caught her husband sexting someone several different times and they gave the same excuse. I've had men approach me online for similar requests. I think it is a cop out when men say they really didn't think it was a big deal or it isn't cheating, etc.

Georgia RN

What advice would Mr. and Mrs. Beau have for older people who are single and struggling to find a partner? I have several friends who are around 50 that are not having much luck connecting with people with shared values and interests. I've been told by them that at their age, "It's more like that I will be struck by lightning than get married."

Georgia RN

Sweet tea from a Mason Jar I would bet! It's a Southern Thing!

Georgia RN

What would be an ideal Valentine's Day date or Movie night for Mr. And Mrs. Beau? From both of them. 💖

Georgia RN

I like this question a lot. My views on the Death Penalty have evolved a lot over the years. I would love to hear Beau's opinion on what we could do to prisoners who are not viable candidates for release and just end up spending decades in for profit prisons on the taxpayers dime. I'm all for a Scandinavian style system that focuses on rehabilitation. But for people who are serial killers or folks like Charlie Manson... What can we do with the irredeemable?

Georgia RN

Also would love to see Beau so an in depth video about Ireland and N. Ireland explaining The Troubles. I think many Americans in particular only see Terrorism as Brown People with extremist religious views. We aren't taught much about the Irish struggles other than very basic info on the Potato Famine and their subsequent mass immigration. I think Beau could do a compare and contrast video that would help people understand their roots of terrorism and be less judgemental.

Georgia RN

I know Beau has spoken about his dream expatriate destination being Ireland. At some point, as it's not really Valentine's Day material, could he do a video on the inside and outs of developing an Escape Plan for Americans.

Georgia RN

Hey Beau, what are you drinking in your profile pic?

Benjamin Hendee

what did you think of the moment on the Grammys when Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs did a duet? To me, it felt like hope for the future of our country, but........

Suzy Marie Hendrix

Forever Single guy from Poland says hi ;) Personally this holiday either doesn't concern me or annoys me a little bit, because I'm jealous. Though damn if ads and "sales" and everything else don't get to me almost like they do on Christmas. Commercial part of that "holiday" is super annoying. Do you do something to counter-act this "deluge" of "cutesy, pink or red, commercial" stuff? I don't watch TV since 2005 and have adblock, but you as a journalist can't exactly cut yourself off from that stuff.

I discovered that my beloved hubby of more than 40 years was texting on a private network with a “cute little Asian woman”. And, he had been doing this for about 2 years. He showed me his messages and didn’t seem to know why what he was doing was hurtful and wrong (the comment about her lacy bathrobe was what got to me) but after my angry and tearful discussions with him he’s a bit more clued in. So he says he’s sorry and he won’t do this again but we have had a really wonderful marriage. And now I don’t trust him. So how do I proceed? And yes, we do talk to one another and are intimate, just fyi.

Patti Robertson

Beau/Ms. Beau, I am happily married and met my wife through a "traditional method" (friend of a friend at a friend's BBQ). I am out of touch of the dating scene since....you know...I'm married, but I do read a lot of /lonely on reddit because one day, in the future, when I have time...I'll do my own YT channel to hopefully help out. Instead of a question, I wanted to get your thoughts on the current dating landscape and finding someone who has similar values. My opinion on the aspects of the current dating scene: gamified dates through dating apps, more isolation because technology has made it easier to accomplish daily tasks without social interactions, loss of identity for "masculine men", overall inflation and cost to "date", overcoming issues relating to mental health, and the aversion to interact with non-green flags because of the quick judgement that they are on the "other side". Those were loaded topics, but I like that you offer a more balanced view so I'm not drinking my own koolaid. Thank you Beau for all your thoughts.

van nguyen

Beau and Mrs. Beau. what if any special things (public friendly) do you do for Valentine's? Do you take time for just the two of you, and if so, are there special favorite activities that you do together?

Deanna C

Mrs. Beau, did you grow up on a farm or ranch? I'm a lifelong townie and a mom who'd worked full-time and I can't fathom how you manage husband, lots of kids, animals, AND nursing. We had cats and dogs and other little critters but nothing big and no ranch. I'm still missing you on Twitter (nkn as x)!

Frances Wong

Valentine's Day is my birthday. No question, just wanted to thank everyone for taking each other out for dinner, giving cards and flowers and chocolates etc, all in honor of my big day. :-)

Andrea Smith

Beau, getting married to my partner of over 8 years this upcoming summer. Any tips for maintaining a strong and healthy relationship as we move into this next phase?

Jefferson

Hi Beau, i keep hearing you say that "European Security is American Security". Can you explain this in a little more depth?

Sam

This may be a silly question, but where would you and Mrs. Beau go on vacation if you had the time?

Adam Clease

Thanks! I'm really of the opinion that unless a job has duties that require being in person, there's no reason someone couldn't work from home the majority of the time anyway.

Lynn Shepard

I'm at the municipal level and it's never been a real option for our groups because the public is so up in arms about remote work 😞 and we're under a microscope for all the 'sins' of Congress. I hope you get to keep remote work, for what it's worth.

Angie

@RatAghast You may become a Beau informant if you aren't already, throwing around that kind of knowledge 🤣 Much appreciated insight!

Angie

I only like it as an excuse to give my kids a stuffy and some candy. And buy myself a plant lol

Angie

Beau -- this is tangential to Valentine's Day. I want to reiterate that the community network videos are my favorites and IMO the best ones you publish because they give me hope. Is there an interesting space story you haven't had time to talk about? Or medical / general science news.

Angie

Omg yes I literally just said something similar! I think it was Marilyn's story I'm recalling, and it was so hilarious!

Angie

Mrs. Beau, please tell us about your horses! I miss seeing your sassy exchanges with Beau on Twitter because I don't really look at that platform anymore.

Angie

Hey Beau, Do you love your dogs as much as they love you? If so, what are you getting them for Valentine's Day?

Steven Roller

What do you plan to do with your Valentine's Day this year?

Aaron Bono

Dear The Beaus: What is a show or film you've been able to enjoy together recently. Me and my partner are going back to watch Hilda, if you need a recommendation!

Mister Joshua

Dear Mrs. Beau, what attracted you to your Mr? What keeps you in the partnership?

Lyn Christian

My SO isn't quite that far from center, you're certainly a much more patient and understanding person than me. I'm thankful that my spouse has come around to my view on many social issues (after 15 years of hearing me lecture) while our differences tend to be on things they find hard to accept (immigration and trans rights being two sticking points between us). So no core ideological divides but still some land mines I have to navigate.

mclardass

As someone with a bunch of kids, what do you think about the decision to not have children given the state of the world; school shootings, climate change, political upheaval, AI, etc.

Selma Filali

Beau what is the most romantic thing you've done for your wife, and vice versa? Also, since John Stewart has returned to the daily show, will you go on the daily show as a guest? Happy Valentine's Day!

alexander gaitan

Here's a morbid one, do you have a replacement or someone to cover for videos should you get sick or need to take a break or does the column collapse?

Zane Perron

Same here, going on 20 years of marriage. I'm pretty left politically and my husband is a Republican, reads Jordan Peterson books, and loves Ben Shapiro. We can't even discuss most political topics anymore. It gets too heated but I hate that. I wish I could talk to him but I get too angry because the right is so sexist about so many things that I just end up offended he would even believe them at all. We have a really good marriage other than politics. Which may sound crazy, but it's true. Wouldn't still be here if we didn't.

NotSure

I've been happily married for many years but my spouse has less-progressive views, and is downright conservative on some issues, compared to my leftist beliefs. Over the years we've found common ground but some topics are verboten since I know they'll spark an argument. Any suggestion on navigating hot-button issues when you understand your spouse's reasoning but completely disagree with their conclusions?

mclardass

How did Mr & Mrs Beau meet?

Jo

I know there is a shortage of Helium, but I think it would be easier for the inmates if supplies could be found. Of course, if cruelty is the point... I am still against the death penalty, either way.

Meg Sampson AKA Blonde Avenger

And Mrs Beau, same question.

Mary Whalen

Does Mrs Beau help with the channel? Does she have her own? I'd like to follow it if she does.

S. Beem

As a former hypoxia researcher, I wanted to add some clarity here: when nitrogen is used to completely displace oxygen, it is painless. Your body only detects low oxygen indirectly via the blood acidity caused by high CO2 - it can’t actually detect low oxygen itself. We had to establish a whole special safety protocol in the lab to get cleared to have a liquid nitrogen tank in a small isolation room because a person can enter a room without enough oxygen to sustain consciousness and pass out before realizing. There was no due diligence in ensuring that the gas administered was 100% nitrogen and that the seal and flow were such that alveolar pO2 quickly reached 0. I don’t agree with capital punishment, but if it’s going to happen, it should be more humane. Fighting against nitrogen displacement itself is the wrong fight.

RatAghast

Mr. Beau occasionally talks about letting Mrs. Beau have her way with stray animals, etc. ... I'd be curious to hear from Mrs. Beau what Mr. Beau isn't telling us about what he gets away with...

Jerry Van Leeuwen

A little bit of a request instead of a question but to celebrate the day of love, would you be able to make a little PSA on behalf of wildlife rehabbers? I am an experienced rehabber that focuses on opossums and I know the season is coming. I would love it if people could look up a local wildlife rehab phone number and just keep that info handy as we get a lot of calls from people who don't know where to call when they find a sick or injured wildie and we get the animal too late. Just a quick search, find a local number and keep it handy. Rehabbers network so an "owl person" probably knows a "fox person" or an "opossum person" so calling any rehabber may help. Thank you and all my love and respect to this wonderful channel!

CBM

So much fear. How do we turn down the volume without being clueless?

Susan Elizabeth Cowdrey

My family is single grandma raising mixed heritage adolescent child, anti-theist, progressive. We have the same fear, but I do not have the resources to leave. I am hoping Beau addresses this. 💙

Susan Elizabeth Cowdrey

How does a family/marriage/relationship not just survive, but thrive in this country and this world, with so many horrors pulling our attention outward? How do we speak about hope for the future, near and distant? How do we talk to children about this weird “now”?

Debra DiPiazza

How does Mrs Beau find time to take care of kids, animals, work and you Beau—and still be somewhat calm?

Sherry Sahlstrom

Hi :) why do some right wingers think the military would help Trump with a coup? Most military detest Trump.

Amy Perry

Do you think Trump sends valentine cards and gifts to himself?

jude stynes

Hello! What would be a healthy way to set expectations in finding a committed partner when that hasn't really been modeled for you during your youth in a way which inspires, even if it's hard?

Shalin Mody

That's not a chance I'm going to let pass by. Mrs. Beau! Hi! First; I miss the little Twitter "conversations" you two had, especially on the day you managed to sneak in Marilyn and he had no idea (or pretended he had no idea, I don't care, it was funny as hell) Second; What is Beau's most annoying habit you've accepted over the years but still have trouble with from time to time. (things that make you go; ugh)

Mo po

Like many others I am trying to balance my increasing anxiety at the state of our Country with day to day living. I am finding it more difficult to stay focused on creating positive change, doing my day to day living (when it seems we have bigger issues to worry about), and wondering if I should be preparing for worst case outcomes. I am finding it more difficult to continue to reach across the aisle (or across the street in my case) to people who vote for candidates that seem hellbent on destruction and hate - even when those people seem to be "otherwise good intentioned". I know I am not doing anyone (including myself) any good if I too become chaotic and angry but I am definitely finding it harder to maintain this position. How are you balancing these issues yourself and what is your perspective on realistic levels of fear, anger, and worry? ETA - thank you for what you do - your voice is often a sanity check for so many. We appreciate you.

Joan Justice

I am currently taking a course on environmental sustainability for my EnvSci degree. Because of having that subject matter on my brain lately and I know that you have previously expressed a lot of concern for the environment, my thoughts have drifted to how you might manage your ranch to keep its operations sustainable. Do you have any details on this that you are comfortable sharing?

Patty Boris

What is your favorite comfort food?

Ray James

Our family is same-sex, mixed-religion, with an adopted child. The political climate has been causing increasing fear and anxiety within our family and my spouse has begun looking at international job listings - as well as domestic. Our families think we are drastically overreacting, but we are very concerned about our future should Trump be elected again. At the very least, we are trying to get out of the south. Do you have any thoughts or advice?

Ainsley Thrailkill

What do you grow in your garden? And what’s your secrets to a good marriage?

Cathy ferguson

What is the kindest experience you've had in Valentine's Day?

Byll

When do the gardening and homesteading videos come out and are you considering a more hurricane proof option like small walled greenhouse for next years gardening projects

Lauren Rodriguez

If you lived in a different country where would y’all live, or have you thought about it much

Lauren Rodriguez

Mrs Beau! (Or Captain Beau?) My youngest (4) still cannot sleep through the night. Y’all have any suggestions? We tired a weighted blanket, melatonin, sound machine, lots of snuggles.

Brekke El

I know that you are really rooted where you live, and I understand that building a local network is a vital strategy for lasting change. If it weren't for your home and not wanting to disrupt your family's life, however, would you have decided at some point over the past few years to just cut and run, local network or no? I know that despite being deeply committed to the praxis of teaching and being a faculty member at a state university in the upper Midwest, I'm counting the months to when I can retire and leave this deeply and smugly authoritarian state for a far more sane and welcoming majority-minority one.

Mark Singer

What is your idea of a perfect date night with Mrs. Beau?

Dave Grant

You guys have quite the plethora of animals already, what is a species you guys don't have yet but really want. Or which one does Mrs. Beau really want but Beau still needs to be convinced of?

Jobbe Smit

Beau you work too much, and if you’re anything to go by so does Mrs Beau. What country is your guys dream vacation destination? Me and my Mrs are going to Japan later this year and are extremely excited about it.

Triscaleon

What's your take on Matt Walsh calling getting your wife/girlfriend a gift well before valentine's day as "the gayest thing?" I figure it'll be a funny one.

Rob Jobin

I miss seeing your posts on various social media, as I shared them a lot (still share straight from YT). Theres a 2nd account on FB though, looks like you but I think it's a copycat. Maybe that's why you got messages from FB saying you weren't posting original content...? 🤔 I've sent a couple messages before asking if it's really you, but didn't see a reply. So, what social media accounts do you actually still have? Getting closer to the elections, I think a bigger presence on the socials by someone like you would really help to get fact based, reasonable, logical, informative, & SANE, responses to a lot of the BS that is being, & will be, slung over the next several months.

Cos B

Beau, it would be nice to see a Thomas Paine type video on Susan B Anthony (1820-1906) and how she helped advocate women’s rights & has been mistakenly identified as an anti-abortion advocate by the far right. Still amazed that women did not have the right to vote until the 19th amendment was signed into law in 1920. For Mrs Beau, will your hubby voluntarily scoop Marilyn’s poop on Valentine’s Day as a surprise gift for you?🤭

moon4409

Hi Beau and, hopefully, Mrs Beau. Do you celebrate Valentine's Day? If so, what would you say was your all time favorite Valentine's Day moment, with each other? If not, why not?

Jaquenta Jackie

As someone who lives in Alabama (and has been here my entire life) and helped/is helping with the small amount of organized resistance for these particular issues, I will say that there is traction being gained in response to the behavior of state officials here. It is slow, but definitely not insignificant, and it is growing every single day.

Jacob Jones

Hey Beau and possibly Mrs. Beau! What place do you think hopeful messaging about the power of love has in our current political environment? Major politicians seem to avoid that word except in very certain contexts (queer rights, family, nationalism, etc.). I feel like no one's really advocating for learning to love one another, which is weird because that seems to me like an inspirational message that could get people motivated, and the alternative is rising division, dehumanization, and violence, but the people who most rely on that hopeful language about love are fringe figures who don't even run in elections with the goal of winning them because of how fringe they are. What am I missing here?

Cohen

When my future Son in law asked for my daughters hand, I told him I raised my baby already and she's a woman now so if she says yes you have my blessings, that was over 10 yrs ago and I love my son in law but sometimes I wish I had something more to say back then, is there more a dad can say 11 yrs later without crossing the line 🙈🙉🙊

Koolgrndaddysweets forever

I don't have a question. I just wanted to take this opportunity to express my general hatred of the entire concept of V-Day.

Lionel L.

Hi Beau, I was wondering what your thoughts on Alabama using Nitrogen Gas to execute Kenneth Smith were. Do you feel like the cruelty is the point for the powers that be there? I can't help feeling like this seems to be a prime example of the death of empathy in some circles. I do agree with you that on a long enough timeline we will win, but the section of society that is fighting progress appears to want to inflict as much suffering as possible on the way, and given the lack of outcry to the human rights atrocities in Palestine, and other places the majority of the 'West' are happy to ignore (if not triumph in,) they appear to have carte blanche to do so. Keeping hopeful is hard lately. Though you do help, thank you.

Jenny Harris

For both- What was the moment when you knew this was the right person for you?

Wynter

As a federal employee, I'm hearing rumblings about everyone being forced to go back to offices. Any truth to that or is it just the DC people?
