Early release on fact checking video

After the recent video helping the guy fact check, lots of people asked for tips. Here's an informal run down on some questions to ask and methods to check.

Beau - Could you do a simpler version of this for teens and pre-teens? As a grandparent, I would sit down and share it with them. I found that one of my grandsons was following Andrew Tate on tiktok and echoing his misogyny, (My grandson has two younger sisters.) We had a talk about who Andrew Tate was and how men really treated women but he obviously had no information about how to do fact checking. You have children so maybe you could get their input on this type of video.

Speaking of which, can this be fact checked? It’s blowing up: https://thedebrief.org/intelligence-officials-say-u-s-has-retrieved-non-human-craft/

You know "critical thinking" will be illegal here in Florida before too long, if for no other reason than it sounds too much like "critical race theory" ... seriously though, if this is just a rough draft then I look forward to sharing the final result with people.

My phone lit up with Trump arrested for counterfeiting this morning! Made me smile but I heard your words Beau, 'if you want it to be true it probably isn't'!! Crazy world!

Republicans would block it.

One huge problem with misinformation is the cynical way it's promoted and amplified by many prominent politicians. It's so much easier to believe a lie when it's being repeated over and over again by your senator, congressperson, or city councilman.

Great info, thanks Beau!

Wish this was school topic everywhere.

Outstanding video. Thanks, Beau!

Beau, Can you please speak to the targeting of people that aren't in a certain demographic? Asking for a friend 😉.

Having a trusted source is really important to me. I like knowing things and being aware, but I'm not in a rush to be first to share. I have learned through the decades that it's more valuable to wait for verification. I believe many of us following Beau, wait for the information he imparts. He often has a fuller, more detailed view on things. He is a teacher and we learn, and sometimes we learn that we missed a vital piece of information that he has not. My personal trust in the information Beau imparts took time to grow. I'm pretty confident in my ability to think for myself, but I know my limitations around hunting down facts. I don't care enough to spend the energy and time, so I need a trusted teacher. Plus, Beau admits when he's wrong, and holds up to fact checking well. Thanks Beau.

This is a good start. I hope you do more videos like this. I'm also interested in learning more about what you mean by "retraining your algorithm" and getting more suggestions on how to do it.

thank you.
