In stark contrast to the traditions of the Draak while on Earth, the emergence of the first Kin on Newhome from its speckled Chamber was attended by not only its parent but several others, eager to witness the continuation of their People. Though some were concerned at the obvious morphological differences exhibited by the hatchling (upper left), Darktooth the Wise, who was present at the time, declared it an evolution rather than a deformity, a statement proven true as other hatchings took place. This was to be the new vessel for the spirits of the Draak-Kin, a new form for a new world.
After its first Great Sleep, the first-born Kin exhibited several other morphological divergences. A pair of majestic horns... a "crown"... appeared. This would be common to all, though the exact shape and utility would diverge greatly from clan to clan.
Some changes, however, proved to be specific to a new clan of Kin. The firstborn's coloration was striking, a vivid blue unknown among the previous Sapphire Clan, flecked and streaked with gold and dusted with silver. The sacred blue stone known as lapis lazuli immediately came to mind, and the new clan seemed to have a deep affinity with it. Furthermore, members of this new clan were able to cause their most magnificent keratin growths (namely the mane, wingtips, and tailtip) to glow with an enchanting light at will. Turquoise, light purple, and aqua-green were the most common colors for these growths as well as the radiance they emitted.
Though the Lazuli Clan would be the first to appear, four others quickly followed. There did not seem to be a strong link between the new clans and the old ones; Sapphire Kin were no more likely to birth an Lazuli egg than any other clan, though time would prove that a union between two Lazuli would be likely to produce another Lazuli.
In the coming weeks, the four other new Clans will be revealed. Note that, in addition to having different bodies, the new clans will also have distinct new powers and abilities, which will be covered in a future post. We look forward to your thoughts on these new breeds of blessed Kin.
