YomiNinja v0.7.0 - Download
Added 2024-05-13 08:52:31 +0000 UTC
Hi everyone! YomiNinja v0.7 is finally here! Apologies for the wait! I encountered some unexpected complexities along the way, but now it's ready for you to test. This post will be brief as there are more updates coming in a few weeks, which will be included in a more complete progress report.
Changelog:
MangaOCR integration (Currently available for Windows and Linux).
Initial support for macOS.
Integration of Apple's Vision Framework OCR engine (macOS only, generally superior to PaddleOCR or MangaOCR).
Auto OCR (OCR Templates): Monitors your screen and automatically runs OCR whenever it detects significant changes.
Text-to-Speech (OCR Templates).
System tray icon.
Overlay Adjustment Option: You can now manually move or resize the overlay either from the tray icon or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+M.
Additional PaddleOCR languages: Chinese (traditional), Latin, and Cyrillic.
Known Issues:
MangaOCR currently uses the Paddle Text Detector (for detecting text position). An update is coming to add the Comic-Text-Detector to achieve better results with manga.
MangaOCR takes up a lot of storage space, and there's no way to reduce its size without affecting accuracy. However, I'll make it optional.
MangaOCR and PaddleOCR are not available on macOS. MangaOCR will be added soon. I'm not sure if PaddleOCR should be added though; the macOS built-in OCR engine is superior.
The macOS version requires Rosetta to run on M-series chips (fixable).
The Apple Vision OCR engine doesn't work with vertical text. It seems like it was added recently in macOS 14 (I'm working to fix it).
The Auto OCR only works on macOS when the capture source is maximized (fixable).
The Auto OCR mode can't watch multiple regions (fixable).
VOICEVOX TTS voices don't show up (fixable). You can use VoivoClip in the meantime.
Important Notes about Auto OCR:
The menu becomes available when selecting a region from the OCR Template screen.
It can be adjusted per region for more flexibility.
It's only active when a capture source is manually selected (please let me know if this should be changed).
Motion Sensitivity is the most important parameter. Try using higher values for Visual Novels or RPGs and lower values for other types of games. Avoid changing other parameters unless necessary.
I'm working on an option to let you specify the color of the text so it can track the changes more precisely (especially in cutscenes).
I imagine some people might find certain options confusing so please reach out on Discord for help! Any feedback is appreciated, so please let me know your suggestions! Thank you so much for your patience and support!
Note: The app has become too large to upload to Patreon. Uploading it in parts could lead to a confusing download section. Therefore, the larger files are now being uploaded to Google Drive instead. Unfortunately, due to current storage limitations, the Linux files will be uploaded slightly later, expected within the next 24 hours.

What a gigantic update! Can't wait to try AutoOCR! Also, TTS, thank you so much!!! I'm listening main, and streams of messages in games like Persona slow me down a lot. If someone is reading all that out loud, the process is much more fun. Also it will be interesting to play with MangaOCR and especially with AppleOCR.

2024-05-14 08:39:35 +0000 UTCI ran in to an issue where I can't set up Google Lens on MacOS, but Apple Vision works well enough for me for now. Thank you so much for bringing Yomininja to MacOS, and I can't wait to see how things keep evolving.

2024-05-13 21:36:28 +0000 UTCYeah, I have no idea how to get the AutoOCR to work. I made a custom template, set the settings, tried all the combinations for sensitivity and number of frames, tried video vs. reading on a website, and nothing. Tried different button combinations. A quick guide would help maybe?

2024-05-13 20:18:39 +0000 UTCI've spent the last few hours trying to get the AutoOCR to work... could you add a bit more information on how to get it working or at least a default setup of some sort. From there we could make adjustments like location of the text or something like that.
