Germany has been underspending on defense. The situation in Ukraine has caused Germany to rethink defense spending. When I was in the US Air Force, I heard a lot of bad stuff about Russia. After watching Rehi's videos and reading numerous articles, I am convinced the Russian are even worse than I had imagined.

I envy the Germans for how their Green Party has grown up. As a youth I was very inspired by Green thinkers like Rudolf Bahro, Arne Naess, and Petra Kelly. I understand the Greens in Germany recognize the need to defend Ukraine from Russian imperialism. Here in the USA, the pathetic Greens (for whom I have often voted and helped get on the ballot) have become a bunch of pro-Russian Tankies, much to their eternal disgrace. The anti-militarism of Greens was based on a legitimate criticism of my country's tendency to respond to too many issues with military force, and to use military force in stupid and brutal ways. And to that extent, I'm still deeply skeptical of American hyper-militarism in our foreign policy. However, sometimes you can't be a strict pacifist. Poland in 1939. South Korea in 1950, and now Ukraine in 2022. These cases stand apart, and require generous and abundant military assistance, as part of the mix of approaches to ending the war in a way that will destroy or humiliate the aggressor.
