Added 2017-12-31 17:40:21 +0000 UTCWelp, it's the end of 2017. What a year for the world news-wise, but I'm not gonna talk about that right now, juuuuust gonna talk about you and me.
I'm deeply grateful – 2017 was the first year where my entire income came from kind, generous supporters like you! (In previous years, I supplemented myself with random contract work) And with your help, here's all the stuff I created this year:
March 2017: LOOPY, a tool for thinking in systems
June 2017: Fireflies, a short simulation about emergence
July 2017: The Evolution of Trust, an interactive guide to the game theory of trust
Aug 2017: Seeing Whole Systems, my Long Now talk about complexity
Sep 2017: The new Explorable Explanations website
Dec 2017: Joy.js, a tool for making happy little programs
And in 2017, this Patreon finally reached a level that covers all my living expenses. That's a huge deal, and, I still get a bit misty-eyed thinking – holy crap, people actually like me and my work enough to help me live. So: truly, deeply, thank you all. :tears of joy emoji:
See you peeps later in 2018!

P.S: What idea/topic/question would you like to see an explorable explanation of next year? Let me know in the Patreon comments! ;)

Hoo-wee, one of my dream projects would be to make an explorable that starts with a single neuron, then shows how two neurons can interact, then a small network of neurons can learn & do simple tasks, how sub-networks combine to do more complex tasks, then [hand waving here about recursion or whatever] and that's how consciousness emerges! I do *NOT* know enough about neuroscience or philosophy to actually pull that off yet, though

2018-01-12 03:21:40 +0000 UTCThere is a book called the power of habbit. Part 2 in that book talks about rutines and outlines it with a fire incident i the london underground in the 80? 's. That might be an interesting topic connected to why systems are they way they are.
