New demo! Joy.js: make happy little programs

Whoof, sorry for the silence the last couple weeks, I've been crunching away trying to pull together a demo.  What demo?  THIS DEMO:

JOY.JS (DEMO) – MAKE HAPPY LITTLE PROGRAMS

A lot's changed since the last GIF I showed you: refactored all the code, new interface, and created a nonlinear dynamics explorer using Joy.js!  I figure having a "serious" example may help people avoid the misconception that Joy.js is for "teaching programming", like Scratch.  Also, I'm choosing to focus more on how Joy.js is live, direct, and explorative, rather than "coding but easier".  Because it's not just "coding but easier", it has actual features beyond most current programming environments.

Also, this Patreon just hit 1,000 supporters!  I say this every single time, but: thank you, thank you all so much.  :,)  I really would not be able to have all this creative freedom without your generous support, and your encouragement and feedback helps me keep going, even when I'm burning out.

...which, by the way, I'm burning out.  Just a bit, don't worry.  I believe I should be honest and open with you peeps, so I want to let you know I've been a really exhausted recently, and I need to take a week or two off to re-connect with local friends, bring my sleep cycle back to normal, and get back into the habit of actually eating breakfast.  (Besides, it's nearly U.S. Thanksgiving, I'll take that as an excuse for a break even though I'm Canadian & Canadian Thanksgiving was last month)

After that, I'll be right back at this!  I'm excited for Version Zero of Joy.js to come out (estimate: mid-December?) and, because it's a re-useable JavaScript library, I'm excited for all the new, deeper explorables & tools I can make with Joy.js!

Thank you all again so much!  Let me know what you think of Joy.js so far :)

dude, you're making art with code. and getting paid for it! this by itself is truly amazing and great to see being turned into at least 1 reality! a quite heroic one. now, my first impression of joy.js is: it's way, way too meta-art. i really can't see any beauty in it and definitely no such ambitious parallel with the paintbrush (at least from down here, in my own stupid hellhole point of view). still, it must be inspiring to many. keep up the good work, burn yourself up if you need to, heal from the ashes and continue. you're doing fine and already built unique things there. huge trophies and kudos to you, nicky!

don't burn out. it's not worth it.

My friend, if you are even *SLIGHTLY* burned out, it is time to take a /month/ or two off. Don't worry; we'll still support you financially. I know the statistics concerning those who wait to burn out before taking a sabbatical. They aren't good; aren't good at ALL. Now is a good time to take that pottery class you always wanted, or learn Salsa dancing, or ANYTHING AT ALL THAT DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH A COMPUTER!

Thank you! And, I'll try to take care of myself πŸ‘

Thank you! :)

Nicky Case

I shall try! :)

Nicky Case

Ha, you're right! Health itself is indeed good enough of a reason :) I'll try my best, thanks for the best wishes!

> I need to take a week or two off to re-connect with local friends, bring my sleep cycle back to normal, and get back into the habit of actually eating breakfast. Never hesitate to do this when you need it. If you need a "production logic" based excuse [1] to allow yourself taking rest and have having a reasonable work schedule here is one: A tired, sad and badly fed Nicky can't make as much great stuff as a fresh, happy and well fed Nicky. <3 [1] which I hate because it's acknowledging that well being and health reasons aren't enough

Thanks for the update Nicky! Definitely take all the time you need. Keeping a step ahead of burnout is really challenging. I hope you can come back to this all with a sense of joy and meaning!

Omg Nicky this tool really looks amazing!! There's so much potential to it. Take care of yourself though :-) It's the most important

Xavier Lambein

Amazing work, once again! Thank you! And take care of yourself... We all need your happy little inspirations.

Richard Hackathorn

I'll try to... make an attempt at that!

Nicky Case

Looks great Nicky. Definitely take care of your mental and physical health!
