Hello New Patrons! (And: What's Next?)

“July 2017 summary: +255 Patrons”

Wowzers McTrousers.

I’m absolutely humbled by the response y’all had to The Evolution of Trust! Sure, there’s the metrics (8 million plays, 5K retweets, 35K upvotes on reddit) but here’s what really matters: helping people think in systems, giving teachers a fun thing to inspire students, spreading a message of peace WITH practical action!

Again, sincerely, thank you all. :)

So! What’s next? I already mentioned it in the last post, but for all you new patrons (& a reminder for you ol’ patrons), here’s what I’ll be up to in the coming weeks:

MY LONG NOW TALK. I’m giving an hour-long talk in three days, titled “Seeing Whole Systems”! My talk will teach you the core ideas from complexity/chaos theory, and how to draw your own systems. The talk will be put online for free + I’ll post my slides a couple weeks afterwards!

THE NEW NEW EXPLORABLE EXPLANATIONS HUB. Oh jeez, it’s been 2 years since I last updated the site. Later in August, I want to finally get around to re-designing it, adding more examples, and writing tutorials on how to make an explorable explanation! If you’ve been inspired by my interactives, and would like to make your own... keep an eye open for the new new explorabl.es website! ;)

A PERSONAL "GAME JAM". I want to avoid the mistake of spending forever trying to top an unexpectedly-successful project. (a mistake I’ve made before) So, for the month of September, I'll make a whole bunch of small, short interactives! When it comes to being experimental, quantity can be its own quality.

A'ight, sorry for throwing the wall of text at you. Just wanted to say again, because I’m cheesy but also because I sincerely mean it every time: thank you all from the bottom of my heart. :)

See you next time!

<3,
~ Nicky Case

Can anyone tell me how to make a negative arrow. All I can create are + arrows. Thanks.

Cool

Illuminati Games

Just wanted to let you know I'm still thinking about and looking forwards to seeing what you make during your game jam! I made a Loopy to express the feelings: http://bit.ly/2vqI5JG

too tired… briefly thought you wrote human heights were perennially misunderstood and this was keeping people from understanding systems x)

Jan Kölling

Keep up :)

"Game Jam" idea / request. I would love to see a short video on - Standard deviations (maybe using human heights) - Big numbers (maybe using government budgets) I feel like these two things are perennially misunderstood. That misunderstanding influences people's ability to understand even simple systems.

Gaëtan Perrault

Very cool seeing the "Iterative Prisoner's Dilemma" - the adjustable settings make that pretty cool also. It would be nice to be able to increase the total starting pool size beyond the current number. "Mutation" that can bring previously suppressed traits back in at random might be fun as well.

Quantum Cat

Aw, thank you! :)

Thank you! T-minus three days for the Long Now talk, heeeeeeeeere goes nothin'

I'd been meaning to hop onboard for a while and The Evolution of Trust was just the prompt I needed. I think your work is fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing and supporting you in creating more :)

Josh 'Cheeseness' Bush

So exciting to see your work on systems continue to resonate! It's not an easy subject and I think you're doing a better job of it than pretty much anyone else out there. Looking forward to the Long Now talk!
