Surprise! A new interactive on fireflies & emergence

Hi y'all! Just thought I'd surprise you with a short, sweet, serene simulation, before the end of the month.

FIREFLIES: and what they can teach us about, well, everything.

There's a few things I wanted to try with this project: 1) to challenge myself to make a meaningful interactive in less than a week. 2) this new minimalist format, where it's just one big fullscreen simulation. 3) to make something about the beautiful, transcendent side of emergence.

Also, I needed to take time away and make a side project, because I've been feeling stuck recently on The Evolution of Trust. I'd planned this whole huge thing in my head – with voiceover & dynamic narrator a lá The Stanley Parable – but I skipped the prototyping phase, and now I'm paying the price for my hubris.

So, bad news is I'm re-booting that project. Good news is that, with your help, I can re-boot it into something that's both higher quality and easier to make! (It turns out voiceover is a far less efficient way of conveying information than text you can read at your own pace.) Before I scrap it all, I guess I might as well show you what I'd made so far – I'll send you that next week – and if you'd like, you can give me feedback on what worked & what didn't.

Anyway, have a lovely summer! You might just be able to catch some fireflies ;)
