More pencil practice

In July, I made attempts to harness my other drawing style for comic pages again. All I really want to do is a short story this way. But I still can't squeeze out more than a single page before the wheels come off. Above is an experimental page.
Between the first and the second page, an argument begins between the part of my mind that finds drawing like this effortless when it is for no particular purpose, and the part of my mind that is dedicated to spending several hours a day rendering things very neatly, with some complexity, using expensive drawing technology. I can't shut up the neat brain, and soon it demands a difficult piece of perspective, or a tiny, unrenderable figure, and tells me that the fun is over.
I think the problem is that Technical John has a lot more experience than Fun John, and starts to overrule Fun John as soon as fun looks like work rather than fun. I can't wait to donate my brain to science. I think it'll probably explode ten seconds after the sawbones pops it out.

This is wonderful. Also can sympathize as I bought some lovely pencils and am now terrified of them.
