This story was conceived by my girlfriend Laura Snapes, who gave me the plot elements in the same way that you might throw a selection of stock vegetables at a chef, then hit him over the back of the head with a pan and tell him to get on with it. I will do all I can to honour her vision!
Shelley is singing "Manchester United Calypso", one of the greatest football songs ever written, by anybody. It's from 1957 so you might not know it. I have no interest in Manchester United, but this song, hoo boy, what a beauty. It's got everything.
