Thanks! As an international person, I admit I was confused. It was very easy to dismiss "do a proposal" in the fiancé-sense, but like RJ above I then thought Esther was getting impatient with Monsieur Fishman not cutting to the chase, which didn't match what was happening at all... (That's definitely not to ask for you to cut it down with the idioms, your readers including me are avid learners, I'm certain.)
