Cloake-ing device

Here are my designs for John Cloake from Circus Windows. I knew what I wanted him to look like, he was based on the circus correspondent from the World's Fair newspaper group, where I worked in 1998/99. That John was pretty old (though I was 22 at the time and these things are relative, I think he was in his early to mid-70s) and I may have only seen him in the office once or twice as he was usually out on the road, hunting clowns.
It was simply a matter of working out the correct breakdown of his face and body before committing to a final version. The feeling was already there. But it's important to test these things to destruction. You should never be solving character design problems on the final page, after all.
NOTE: apparently satisfied with my efforts, I completed the work with three pictures of Rockford from the old Boulderdash computer game. Great work, me.

Thanks for the reply. My mother (who was English) had some connections with show people.
