PATRONS-ONLY Vlog: Dark Earth Video, Interview, Plans for August

Hello everyone! Here with this month's Patreon vlog. I talk about the current videos I'm working on, plus some of my plans for the coming month.

I tried to mix it up and record outside, unfortunately it's a little out of focus and there is some background noise. Hopefully the video is still interesting!

Yeah, man, I do agree that editing, sound and clean voiceover are your biggest strengths. I still rewatch your "Perfect Fallout Sequel" and "What Future TES games could learn from Daggerfall" once in a while basically, as an inspiration how it's supposed to be done. I'm just a bit more cynical when it comes to Bethesda and thier direction with Fallout franchise, and thier further dumbing down of TES series. Just like you mentioned, for every graphical or technical advancement they make, one can easily see at which cost those improvements come, be it RPG elements, skills that are stripped down or outright removed, twisted and compressed lore, lost potential to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. Nowadays, it's hard to be a fan and it's hard to stay positive. But back to the topic. It just boggles my mind how underrated your channel still is, considering the ammount of work hours that goes into it. Youtube could do way better without those silly reaction and clickbait videos. It's like this is why we can't have nice things because it simply drowns in huge amount of garbage content. This is why I will continue my support of your channel and any other creator who focuses on producing actual good stuff regardless of the popular trends. Take care.

Thanks for your insight, Archived! My content has been getting larger and larger gaps in-between, which I try to fill a little with livestreams, but like you insinuate, not everyone watches those streams so it's not exactly a replacement for my scripted content. I have thought about doing some unscripted content with minimal editing, I'll have to revisit it, as that may be an ideal stopgap in-between my heavier productions. It's not my strong suit as I can't rant on for 20 minutes without errors like some YTers, but I'll see if it's a series or a side-content idea that works with my channel. My main draw was my videos' presentation, the editing, music, sound, visuals and clean voiceover. Live recording with a cut here or there to trim downtime would be considerably faster to produce than my standard videos, so that's an attractive bonus to that type of content: speed of output. I have two videos lined up for post production right now (Not Forgotten and an interview with the game's designer), so it will be a little ways away, but I think you may be on to something, if I can actually put something together that is modestly competent on-camera. Thanks for you comment, I hope you enjoy my next video, shooting for Sunday.

Right, serious answer. Personally I don't mind one bit if you want to cover more mainstream games. If you think that's going to do good for your channel, then that's what you do. I've always viewed you as a guy who goes into a lot of technical stuff and forgets about presentation halfway through. Note, not talking about video or audio quality here, both are on top in your work, talking about your own persona. You could very well do mostly unscripted rants about whatever topic you choose to cover. Simultaneously build up a clear vision of what you think is important about "insert random game here" and to put it into perspective when you talk to the "insert random viewer". For example "Why Bethesda misses so much potential in their games" or "My take on open world games" or "Why I don't play Skyrim VR" or "Bethesda is physically impotent to make a great TES games anymore" ;P. While you could see it as a lazy, not worth producing content, I think it's what brings a lot of character to some channels on YouTube. Not only this gives audience more easy to produce content to watch but also helps to build up an image of yourself aswell as an understanding of your thought process. Something streams can't always do as a lot of it is just filler, with huge pauses that eat up your and your audience's time. Something an adult cannot waste his time on, although I'm not gonna lie, I do watch some of your stream VODs, the most obscure ones. Take, for instance, Zaric Zhakaron. The guy knows a shit ton about TES lore and from time to time goes wild with his imagination with "What if". Yes, he is a jackass, but an insightful one. And I quite enjoy these long ramblings about whatever topic. This way you can make a rant out of it. 20-40 min video where you simply cut the silence and leave only most important stuff. But those are just my random thoughts and may not suit your channel very well. Hopefully, this look was comprehensive. You do you.
