MARCH 2024 OVERVIEW

Apologies for the lateness this month - big post, and a lot going on!

1. Chit chat about it all in this video (including some #GearTalk), and a live version of Irish song, “The Freedom Fighter”

2. New song, “The True Sam Patch.”

3. Traditional song, “Jubilee”

4. (coming) “Podcast” interview about the Erie Canal with Landscape Architect (and friend), Justine Heilner, who’s working on the future of the canal for the New York Power Authority.

I wrote a bit about Sam Patch and Jubilee, but I’d encourage you to just listen to the songs before you dive into my thoughts about them, because I think you deserve to have your own thoughts and feelings about them first, and the songs, themselves, deserve you to also have your own thoughts and feelings about them first! To this end, also, I put the lyrics at the top of each post, with thoughts below them.

NYC in June is sold out, but all other tour dates for the rest of the year are still up with ticket links at tedleo.com/tour, and there are a few more dates being announced soon. A couple of them are festivals, and we have to announce them on their schedule.

I still have some work to do on my intro to the interview, but there’s so much here, I figured I should get these song posts out to you now, and rather than making this one massive and confusing post, I’m putting them in a “Collection,” entitled, intuitively, “MARCH 2024!”

Also – I feel guilty admitting this, but I watched this video at 1.5 speed because I'm technically at work right now and wanted to catch up on this before a meeting. When you started playing the Freedom Fighter I found myself thinking "fuck, these old Irish songs really were the precursor to punk rock", and was impressed at how hard you were going for it with the strum pattern. It was only towards the end that I remembered it was playing at 1.5x speed (but it preserves the pitch!) and I slowed it down. But it works well as a punk rock song too!

Can't believe you buried the "Smooth" lede in this clip – Rob Thomas is such an innovator it deserved to be highlighted more.
