SONG: How Can I Tell You It's Not Fair

In the video, I repeat a lot about "why Patreon" that you can read in the "About" section of my page; but re. the song, something new that I finished writing, recorded, mixed, and "mastered," on Wed., Feb. 7, 2024. It sounded like a number of other things to me at first, and I almost gave up on it, but then all of a sudden, it started just sounding like itself, and I'm into it! Hope you will be too. This one's free and public - future posts will be for subscribers. Lyrics (if they fit), below, downloads below that!

HOW CAN I TELL YOU IT'S NOT FAIR

Two hundred fifty year old brownstone church, and you and me

Waiting for pink petals to appear

And though today there’s just a mess of sticks and cigarettes

They come out earlier every year

We woke old Joseph, but he waved to you

Half falling out his folding chair

He was waiting for the manse to open up and let him in

The only place that seems to care

How can I tell you it’s not there

No one should have to work as hard as you will

No one should be a billionaire

You shouldn’t have to stay the same, if you want to change your name

You shouldn’t have to feel you must compare

How can I tell you it’s not fair

In fields of juvenescence, essence of decay

It settles ‘round the old white hare

And what we live through is what we choose to take, they say

So long, so young, so almost there

How I can I tell you it’s not fair

Comments

Really love this song. It hit different on the way to work this morning. Initially, I think I was into the intensity, the melody, and the traded guitar solos. Mainly listened to the “sounds” of the song the first 10 times through or so. Now that the lyrics are starting to hit home, it is so moving. The second verse, especially hit home as I think about parenting my own kids, the struggles they will face, questions about their own identity and place in the world. Thanks as ever for your thoughtful writing.
