I was about to suggest you go down the 'Mike Flanagan' rabbit hole. But you seem to be suffering through these a bit, if I may say so myself. Well if scares are not your cup of tea, then stay clear. But Mike Flanagan never scares his audiences just for show, just for the extra pump of endorphin in your system. Story always plays prime in his works, and if you give it a second, the seemingly not much of a magnolia bud of disparate stories opens up to reveal its true glory, beauty, and complexity of the fully open flower. Always. And yes, it's always sad. (Magnolia (1999); brilliant picture, BTW, great cast, fantastic direction) Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) is a very creative adaptation of Henry James' Turn of the Screw. And The Fall of the House of Usher (2023) is even more creative, one might say 'wilder', adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories. I assure you I'm not a fan of horror, either. But when Mike Flanagan is signed under it, it's a no-brainer! Midnight Mass (2021) is my favorite, but blood does seep and spill here and there in this brilliant, oh so brilliant!, story. It would be a lot easier to suggest something, if you were a little more specific in you preferences. It's always best watching you react to something you really enjoy. From movies, The Planet of the Apes trilogy with Andy Serkis, might be a fun ride for you. It's a huge, very smartly written and directed epic adventure, with a ton of heart, and visual effects at such hard-to-believe quality, you won't even notice you're actually watching any effects at all! My favorite is Amadeus (1984). If you're into classical music (at least a tiny bit), I wholeheartedly suggest you give this masterpiece a try. ;))
