R.E.M Lore: Popstar!

I will speak more throughly about this idea I had for R.E.M in my video, However, I want to generalize my thoughts. We must remember that Lili's subconscious mind is many versions of herself she can't control. as humans we can only control our conscious mind which is 10% of our being while our subconscious mind have 90% control. Meaning, our subconscious mind has control of our long term memories, habits, belief, imagination, fight or flight while consciously our control is limited.

When Lili is trapped in her dreams it is the will of her subconscious, she can't wakeup because her subconscious refuses her to as it believes waking up would result to her returning to reality that is cruel. Lili has no way of escaping, hell, she doesn't even know she's dreaming and when she does realize she is dreaming she still has no control. Her subconscious believes letting her fall into a deep sleep and slowly die in a dream world she created with fake memories is the best for her. Lili must find her core memories to fully remember who she is and only then can she wake up with her own free will.

Through her journey she encounters other versions of herself of who she truly wanted to be, This version of Lili is created by the subconscious to represent the yearning to be more confident to be loved and to be beautiful and important. She sings she dances she strong she ruthless and she can't stand the true Lili, being a meek and pathetic. I love the idea that she must face different versions of herself to truly understand herself. I love designing the popstar version! from left to right is the progression of design. I love how the stars are phasing through her arms and legs and her outfit! I tried to be very minimalistic. the main idea was to make sure to have her look like Lili since it is a version of herself but still be a bit different such as the hair! whaaa the hair was so much fun to draw. anyway! hope you enjoy it!
