Children of DOOM: ...DOOM (Draft)

Hey all!

I know I promised something that wasn't Children of DOOM or Blips, but between quarantine pushing out just about all major releases and *gestures around* I found it hard to pull any inspiration in time to write something big and fancy.

So I decided to bite the bullet and push us past the id software days of Children of DOOM.  Hopefully from here things get a lot more wild, with all manner of shooters showing up (which is what really drew me to this project to begin with).

This is a bit of a draft? There are one or two areas I think need some additional verbiage or clarifications to really sell the point I want to make.  But on the whole it's like 90-95% complete, so it's not like it's a working draft.

Going forward I already have a bunch of games for a new Blips episode, and I also think I have a few topics for a real Errant Signal.  I actually ended up playing Signs of the Sojourner, and I think it might be cool to talk about dialog systems in games and how they're applied/designed/used?  But part of me wants to wait for the recently kickstarted game We Should Talk to get released, as it ties directly into the topic (which doesn't have a ton of examples otherwise!).  Anyways, that's kind of what's on the horizon for me.  I hope you all are well.  As ever, thank you for your support, and stay safe.

If you get to Marathon, will you get to the Myth series? The AI you could make in that with just a few words was amazing.

My first year of University was when DOOM came out. So many hours in the dark of the suite on my computer was spent playing it or watching someone else playing it. And X-Wing.

About halfway through the video I started muttering "please talk about Marathon in this series" and then BAM!

This is great, and honestly looks complete to me? Good onya

Re: cheating w/ smooth gameplay from modern port, in 1994 a Pentium 90 ran DOOM fullscreen at full frame rate (I don't remember if full frame rate was 30 or 60 though). (I know this because the artists at my game company in 1994 all had Pentium 90s, and we would play multiplayer DOOM after hours on their machines.) Hmm, looked it up, and it was capped to 35 fps apparently. And since it's a 60fps video, I guess your point stands.
